Everton Resources drills encouraging results at Ampliacion Pueblo Viejo in the Dominican
Everton Resources (TSX-V: EVR)(FSX: ERV) announced Thursday some of the company's best gold, copper and silver drill results to date on the La Lechoza prospect at the Ampliacion Pueblo Viejo property in the Dominican Republic.
Everton and its partner, Brigus Gold (TSX, NYSE Amex:BRD), are currently partaking in a diamond drilling program at La Lechoza, designed to follow up on targets identified during the past two years of drilling.
"We continue to be very encouraged by the drill results at La Lechoza. We plan to continue drilling this prospect and test at least eight new targets in the next four months," said Everton president and CEO Andre Audet.
Highlights of the recent results include 4.76 g/t Au and 23.07 g/t Ag over 23.37 metres in hole APV10-30; 1.81 g/t Au and 99.0 g/t Ag over 26.0 metres, and 0.58% Cu over 40.5 metres in hole APV10-33; and 0.23g/t Au, 8.34g/t Ag, 0.2% Cu, and 0.73% Zn over 129 metres in hole APV10-20.
In addition, hole APV10-27 returned 0.27% copper over 27 metres, while hole APV10-26 intersected 5.11g/t Ag, 0.43% Cu and 0.18% Zn over 9 metres.
Everton said the mineralization at La Lechoza has the characteristics of exhalative polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulphides (VMS). VMS deposits, which are major sources of zinc, lead, silver, copper and gold, typically occur as lenses of polymetallic massive sulphide that form at or near the seafloor in submarine volcanic environments.
There are close to 350 known VMS deposits in Canada and over 800 worldwide. Historically, they account for 27% of Canada’s copper production, 49% of its zinc, 40% of its silver, and 3% of its gold.
The current drilling program on the site has seen 3,400 metres drilled, with another 12 holes planned in the next two months. A second phase of deep drilling, which will include 10,000 metres in eight to 12 holes, is slated to begin early this year, as soon as the equipment is ready.
This part of the program will be designed to test the deep portions of mineralization covering the area in the southwestern section of the Apliacion Pueblo Viejo concession. The project is located adjacent to Barrick Gold (NYSE,TSX:ABX) and Goldcorp's (NYSE:GG, TSX:G) US$3 billion Pueblo Viejo gold deposit in central Dominican Republic.
Everton is planning to divest its subsidiary Hays Lake Gold, which contains the Shoal Lake gold project in Kenora, Ontario, as a means to raise capital to develop the Ampliacion project.
The company also holds an interest in the Opinaca region of James Bay, Quebec where the it has partnered with Aurizon Mines.
