African Energy Resources hits more near surface thick coal seams at Sese
Another thick, near surface coal seam has been hit by African Energy Resources (ASX: AFR) at Block C of the Sese project in Botswana, just two weeks after announcing further thick coal intersections in Block A.
The average seam thickness to date in Block C is 10 metres, with an average depth to the top of the coal of 45 metres, with the company saying coal thickness generally increases to the west and to the south, with increasing distance from the contact between the Karoo sediments and the older crystalline basement.
Drilling will continue in Block C until the heavy seasonal rains prevent access, with the company to undertake Block B drilling in 2011.
To date, sixteen reverse circulation percussion holes and nine diamond drill core holes have been completed in the eastern part of Block C, within an area of approximately 20km2.
The African Energy goal from the drilling program is to build sufficient data for the classification of an inferred resource by the end of March, 2011.
The Sese exploration target is; 1.0 to 1.5 billion tonnes of 4,000kcal/kg to 5,000kcal/kg thermal coal.
