Rexahn Pharmaceuticals adds US patent to CNS treatment portfolio

Rexahn Pharmaceuticals (NYSE Amex: RNN) said Monday that the company was issued an additional U.S. patent for its central nervous system treatment portfolio.

The patent, entitled "Oral Neurotherapeutic Cephalosporin Sulfoxide and Sulfone-containing Compositions”, covers neurotherapeutic pharmaceutical formulations for cefazoline sulfone, cefazoline sulfoxide, ceftriaxone sulfoxide, and ceftriaxone sulfone for treating neurological disease and behavioral and cognitive disorders.

"New patent coverage for these cefazolin and ceftriaxone groups broadens our CNS-related portfolio and strengthens our intellectual property position as well,” said president Rick Soni. 

Rexahn currently has three drug candidates in Phase II clinical trials -- Archexin, Serdaxin, and Zoraxel – and a pipeline of preclinical compounds to treat multiple cancers and CNS disorders.
