Cockatoo Coal kicks off drilling at the Taroom project in the Surat Basin

Cockatoo Coal (ASX: COK) has commenced drilling at the company's Taroom project in the Surat Basin, aimed at confirming historical drilling to verify seam correlation and thickness.

Cockatoo said results are expected to, in due course, confirm the 36.4 million tonne Measured, 89.0 million tonne Indicated and 72.8 million tonne Inferred JORC Resources.

Recent drilling in the Taroom project has cumulative down hole coal intercepts of up to 14.0 metres, with an average thickness of 9.3 metres, with the near surface position of the coal seams confirmed with average depth of optimal strip ratio occurring at 40 metres from surface.

Cockatoo will then kick off a large diameter core program for washability testwork after Easter.

The company has an extensive 4000 square kilometre portfolio of projects in the Surat Basin, with 574 holes drilled in the Surat Basin projects for over 72,000 metres.
