Great Western names representative to Rare Earth Extraction's board of directors

28th Oct 2010, 9:11 am

Great Western Minerals (TSX-V:GWG) said Wednesday that Mohamed Madhi, member of the company's advisory board, has been appointed to represent Great Western on the board of Rare Earth Extraction Company (Rareco), a business in which it holds a 21% stake.

As part of Great Western's integration strategy, the company signed an off-take agreement for 100% of the rare earth elements produced at the former-producing Steenkampskraal mine in South Africa, which is owned by Rareco. Great Western also has a 20.8% interest in Rareco.

Madhi has been chairman of Areva South Africa and the CEO of Safika Resources, a South African company focused on mineral exploration and mining. He has also held executive positions at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Eskom and Harmony Gold, one of the world’s largest gold mining companies.

In addition to serving on Rareco's board, Madhi has also agreed to oversee the advancement of Great Western's interests in the Steenkampskraal project.

Great Western's specialty alloys are used in the battery, magnet and aerospace industries.
