LonZim’s African telecoms business signs up two new operators
LonZim’s (LON:LZM) 51%-owned telecoms business ForgetMeNot Africa (FMNA) has signed new deals with Globacom and Essar Telecom in Nigeria and Kenya, respectively.
Through two separate deals FMNA will provide its mobile messaging platform to subscribers on Globacom’s ‘Nigeria Glo Mobile’ network and Essar Telecom’s ‘yu’ network in Kenya.
FMNA now has access to 42 million potential subscribers in Africa.
"We are extremely pleased with the progress FMNA is making,” LonZim chairman David Lenigas said.
“These two new partnerships make it five contracts for the use of FMNA's unique telecoms solution in four African nations in the last year.”
FMNA's messaging platform gives subscribers access to mobile email and online chat services, on first generation mobile phones.
FMNA chief operating officer Jeremy George emphasised that FMNA’s cloud computing approach ‘turns basic handsets into virtual messaging smartphones’.
"While internet access across Africa remains very low, mobile phones are the only way for the vast majority of Africans to ever access the Internet,” George said.
“As the mobile telecoms market in countries with limited internet access continues to grow, FMNA provides people across Africa with low-cost, pay-as-you-go and easy-to-use two-way mobile email and online chat.”
