Goudron is onshore in Trinidad

Columbus Energy Resources PLC (LON:CERP), the former LGO Energy, has been given the environmental go-ahead, a CEC certificate, for a waterflood programme at its Goudron field in Trinidad.

Leo Koot, executive chairman, said he was thrilled with the award of the CEC and would begin the Water Injection Pilot "A" Programme immediately, funded from available cash resources.

“We have effectively brought forward commencement of the waterflood pilot programme by nearly a year. This was an important work stream for the company as we continue to execute our new strategy for growth.  As part of that growth strategy, we plan to submit further waterflood pilot proposals in the near future."

Production boost

Waterflooding is way of boosting the production from a field by injecting water to increase the flow pressure.

Columbus said the aim of the ‘A’ programme is to increase the rate and recovery in the Goudron Field by increasing reservoir pressure from the current depleted levels and by establishing a sweep of the oil towards production wells, including GY-664, GY-665 and GY-666.

With the certificate, Columbus can complete the installation of waterflooding facilities across the Gros Marne 665 area.

This Pilot "A" Programme will target the Gros Morne reservoir interval with the aim to boost production from 30 barrels per day currently to a peak of over 150 bopd through the injection of over 450 barrels of water per day in to up to three wells, GY-667, GY-668 and GY-209.

The Pilot "A" Programme will start at well GY-668 with total committed costs to date less than US$300,000.

Columbus will assess the results after 18 months to see if the programme should be expanded.

Further pilot programmes

Pilot programmes in three other areas (B, C and D) are also being planned and will target two areas of the shallow Goudron Mayaro reservoir as well as potentially providing pressure support for the Gros Morne/Cruse reservoir GY-670 well, which initially peaked at over 1,150bopd in December 2014.

Submissions for these programmes are expected with the next few months.

The Waterflood Pilot will use existing produced water from the Goudron Field as the source of injection water, which is cheaper and reduces discharge at surface. Injectivity testing to establish wellbore integrity and rate versus pressure parameters has already taken place, Koot added.
