New turbine has come on stream in double-quick time

Atlantis Resources Ltd’s (LON:ARL) turbine at MeyGen in the Pentland Firth has already started to export electricity to the grid and been run at full capacity.

The tidal wave power generator was only connected to the control station in Caithness on Monday.

It is the fourth turbine to come on stream at MeyGen and marks the final piece in the first phase of the project, which is now producing 6Mw of electricity from tidal movements in the waters offshore Scotland.

Atlantis will now move to the next phase of the project, which will be to add a further 6Mw of generating capacity though eventually the aim is for MeyGen to produce 400Mw.

The renewables group repeated that its AR1500 turbines are among the most technologically advanced tidal generators ever deployed on a commercial scale marine power project.
