Vodafone wins 5 year deal to provide Deutsche Post DHL with MPLS network
Mobile operator Vodafone’s (LSE: VOD) communication managing business Vodafone Global Enterprise (VGE) has secured a five-year contract to provide Germany's logistics group Deutsche Post DHL (FSE: DPW) (DPDHL) with a fully managed MPLS network in 67 countries.
The network will connect over 400 sites in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, which will include an international Wide Area Network (WAN) across the three regions and a domestic WAN in Sub-Saharan Africa.
MPLS stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching and is a mechanism in high-performance telecommunications networks which directs and carries data from one network node to the next.
The telecom network is expected to enable DPDHL to provide improved tracking capabilities, allowing employees quicker and easier access to bespoke applications and providing critical connectivity to DPDHL’s data centres in the Czech Republic and Malaysia. Vodafone said that the network will also provide DPDHL with a platform to build further cost-effective, converged services.
