Glencore (LON:GLEN) is nearing an agreement to sell part of its $6bn Viterra agriculture unit to the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board, according to the Wall Street Journal.

On Tuesday, just after the stock market session closed in London, a report emerged about the potential sale.

Debt-laden Glencore said in December it was examining a potential initial public offer of the Viterra business.

Glencore shares closed down 5.3% at £141.85 in London on Tuesday.
