Northern Petroleum completes drilling at Tiendeveen gas well, Netherlands
Northern Petroleum (AIM: NOP) has announced the completion of drilling of the Tiendeveen-1 exploration well at the Drenthe III license in the Netherlands, looking to add to the production and reserves of the nearby Grolloo and Geesbrug fields.
The drilling required additional time to finish due squeezing salt being encountered, as well as a swelling clay section requiring the running of an extra casing interval, with extreme weather conditions also contributing to the delays. Following further detailed analysis, Northern will be preparing and designing a testing and frac programme for those intervals interpreted as gas bearing.
“If testing is successful Tiendeveen will be adding to our reserves and production from the Grolloo and Geesbrug fields. This clearly demonstrates the potential this region has to offer. With approximately 50% of Dutch daily energy needs being provided by natural gas, strong demand can be expected to continue,” said managing director Derek Musgrove.
Partners in Tiendeveen-1 are Northern Petroleum Nederland BV with 45 percent, state oil company EBN with 40 percent and Dyas BV with 15 percent.
Northern is forecasting to reach production of 6,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net to the company in 2013, and said it has strong exploration and appraisal drilling programmes in the Netherlands, Italy, UK and Guyane.
