Thomas acquired 50,000 shares this week to take his stake in the mobile billing firm to 1.05%.

Irish mobile phone billing group Zamano (LON:ZMNO) has attracted the attention of UK tech investor and author Guy Thomas.

Zamano recently received a takeover approach worth €0.20 per share from an unnamed suitor, but Thomas’s appearance on the shareholder list is not thought to be related.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Thomas said that even if a bid failed to materialise he liked Zamano as an investment.

“It's quite a good business. It seems to have good cash flow,” said Thomas, an actuary who is probably best known for his profiles of successful investors in his Free Capital book.

He acquired 50,000 shares this week to take his stake to 1.05%.

Zamano provides mobile services for Three Ireland and Vodafone, which combined account for about 80% of the Irish mobile phone market. In spite of the approach no formal offer has yet been received by the company.
