Hitachi Consulting, the IT consulting arm of Japanese electronics firm Hitachi (NYSE: HIT), said on Tuesday it has acquired IT outsourcing company Sierra Atlantic.  The deal terms were undisclosed.

Sierra Atlantic, headquartered in Newark, California specializes in setting up enterprise applications and management services.  It also provides software development, testing and support services to software companies.

The company hires about 2400 employees worldwide and serves about 200 customers.

"The comprehensive applications management and outsourcing solutions provided by Sierra Atlantic, combined with their global delivery model, will enhance our current services to quickly accelerate the growth of our Managed Services Business," said Doug Allen, Executive Vice President of Managed Solutions for Hitachi Consulting.

Phil Parr, CEO of Hitachi Consulting, added "Hitachi Consulting understands that in today's challenging market we can leverage non-organic growth for our strategic advancement. To further strengthen our position and drive innovative solutions for our customers, we will continue to seek out these types of complementary relationships."

After the acquisition, Sierra Atlantic’s management team will join the newly combined entity.
