New Zealand oil explorer Kea Petroleum (LON:KEA) has hired a new managing director to replace the departing Richard Parkes.

Dr Ian Brown will join the group on 1 May and will work alongside Parkes for a fortnight until his departure on 15 May.

Brown comes with a CV spanning 30 years in applied earth science and management.

Most recently, he was chief operating officer and then General Manager Development and Corporate Affairs at TSX-listed New Zealand Energy Corp and has “considerable experience” in the producing Taranaki basin, where Kea is on the hunt for oil.

“We are very fortunate to have secured the services of Ian,” the company said in a statement.

“His experience of the exploration and production of oil and gas in New Zealand make him a highly valued addition to the management team.”

The board also thanked Parkes for his work over the past few years.
