Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) shares have risen nearly 12% intra-day today on a day when the broader Australian market is a sea of red, the reason being the start of the next phase of drilling at its Paris silver prospect following up previous stellar high grade silver intersections.

Astute investors will realise these previous intersections, which include up to 2.25% silver, are extremely high grade and rarely found in Australia.

Adding extra spice to the exploration equation is the regional graphite potential with widespread hits recorded in historic drill data, including a substantial shallow intersection of 15 metres at 12% total graphitic carbon at the Barna Hill tenement.

A preliminary review of the graphite potential within Investigator’s regional tenements has identified several areas with good potential where graphitic schists were intersected in past drilling.

High grade silver

Last month Investigator uncovered the first of the mineralised feeder structures at Paris which indicates a 3 to 7 metre wide vertical structure assaying over 400g/t silver.

Importantly, this discovery offers depth extensions for high grade silver mineralisation with increasing gold credits already evident in some of the intersections.

Recent assay highlights include 7 metres at 1,810g/t silver from 31 metres, 10 metres at 432g/t silver from 49 metres and 19 metres at 965g/t silver from 42 metres.

From the central feeder zone, notable intersections included 14 metres at greater than 427g/t silver from 97 metres.

The potential depth extensions to the Central Feeder were previously recognised with consistent intersections of up to 14 metres at 907g/t silver achieved by prior shallow drilling along 500 metres of strike tested.

Investigator has identified new feeder targets with an aggregate of another 2 kilometres of untested strike length which adds considerable exploration potential to Paris.

Further exploration upside was found from an initial petrological study which showed the silver is dominantly primary sulphide mineralisation, which is a positive for potential recoveries.

Drilling progress

One diamond drill rig has begun large diameter coring for geological and metallurgical assessment. A total of three large diameter holes will drill the North East manto zone, the northern end of the Central Feeder and the South East manto zone.

Another drill rig will also begin soon to start testing the Central Feeder zone and other feeder targets along with the first rig when it finishes the large diameter holes.

Eyre Peninsula – Emerging Mining Province

The Paris prospect lies adjacent to a new mining operation about 50 kilometres away on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

The prospect is situated around 17 kilometres from the township of Kimba and the Eyre Highway, and about 200 kilometres from heavy engineering facilities in Whyalla and Port Augusta.

Interestingly, Paris is also located around 250 kilometres southwest of BHP Billiton's (ASX: BHP) Olympic Dam operation and about 350 kilometres south of OZ Minerals' (ASX: OZL) Prominent Hill mine.

Proactive Investors is a market leader in the investment news space, providing ASX “Small and Mid-cap” company news, research reports, StockTube videos and One2One Investor Forums.

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has uncovered the first of the mineralised feeder structures at its Paris silver prospect which indicates a 3 to 7 metre wide vertical structure assaying over 400 grams per tonne (g/t).

Importantly, this discovery offers depth extensions for high grade silver mineralisation with increasing gold credits already evident in some of the intersections.

Final assays from recent drilling have returned high grades if up to 1,810g/t.

Highlights include 7 metres at 1,810g/t silver from 31 metres, 10 metres at 432g/t silver from 49 metres and 19 metres at 965g/t silver from 42 metres.

From the central feeder zone, notable intersections included 14 metres at greater than 427g/t silver from 97 metres.

One hole intersected gold mineralisation of 0.81g/t from within a zone of 8 metres at 710g/t silver from 90 metres.

Once again this latest drilling program has produced a number of very high silver grades up to 7,365g/t silver that required several cycles of repeat assaying.

In February, Investigator delivered an impressive silver intersection of up to 2.25% silver.

John Anderson, managing director, said the discovery of the central feeder zone was an exciting addition to the large Paris silver prospect with considerable exploration potential remaining to be drill tested.

“The recent inclined drilling intersected the central feeder structure largely missed by the initial vertical aircore drilling that otherwise made many silver hits in the flatter manto-style mineralisation.

“Although we are starting to find the limits to the high grade pods in the flat overlying sheet structures, Investigator is moving the Paris prospect to a new level with the recognition of the first of the mineralised feeder structures that we predicted to underlie a large epithermal system like Paris.”

Next steps

Another round of exploration drilling is now required to test the enlarged potential of the undrilled lateral extensions to the flat-lying zones and depth extensions to the feeder zones, and to improve the understanding of the structural controls.

Investigator is now anticipating an initial resource for Paris in December 2012.

Eyre Peninsula – Emerging Mining Province

The Paris prospect lies adjacent to a new mining operation about 50 kilometres away on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

“The Eyre Peninsula has got a lot of potential and that’s starting to be realised,” Anderson told Proactive Investors previously. “It’s in an emerging mining province in South Australia.”

Paris is situated around 17 kilometres from the township of Kimba and the Eyre Highway, and about 200 kilometres from heavy engineering facilities in Whyalla and Port Augusta.

Interestingly, the prospect is also located around 250 kilometres southwest of BHP Billiton's (ASX: BHP) Olympic Dam operation and about 350 kilometres south of OZ Minerals' (ASX: OZL) Prominent Hill mine.

Strong market support

Investigator is capturing market attention and has been on an upwards share trajectory since announcing further high grade silver intersections, including the impressive 1 metre at 22,500g/t from 66 metres, in February.

Shares were trading at around A$0.19 in early February and hit highs of $0.42 at the beginning of March, marking a 121% increase.

Investigator Resources a step closer to developing competitive silver deposit at Paris

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has received a second batch of drill assays from the Paris silver prospect which continue to reaffirm its potential to develop into a competitive silver deposit.

Drilling on Line 7, in the Northeast High Grade Zone, returned best intersections of 22 metres at 1,318 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from 73 metres, including 9 metres at 2,799g/t.

Managing director John Anderson said this new intersection is another example of the prospect’s strong attribute of shallow and high grade mineralisation.

“Another intersection into the Western Deep Sheet by PPDH 4 supports the likelihood for deeper mineralisation,” he said.

The Western Deep Sheet on Line 7 intersected 3.4 metres at 1,564g/t silver from 129.6 metres, while the Western Upper Sheet on Line 7 intersected 6 metres at 191g/t silver from 51 metres.

“The intersection of the Western Sheet on Lines 8 and 9 up to 200 metres north of Line 7, including another very high grade silver intersection in PPRC 8, continues to provide encouragement for our initial geological model and the potential for the wider Paris target,” Anderson said.

Notable intersections on the Western Deep Sheet of Line 8 include 5 metres at greater than 2,294g/t silver from 101 metres, while the Western Deep Sheet on Line 9 intersected 16 metres at 331g/t silver from 70 metres.

Importantly, these new assays underpin the previously announced highlight intersections of 11.6 metres at 3,847g/t silver from 63.5 metres, including the stunning intercept of 1 metre at 22,500g/t from 66 metres.

Six diamond holes and 43 reverse circulation percussion holes were completed by the end of February over the initial 1 kilometre strike length of the Paris target. Assays have been received for most of the first nine reverse circulation percussion holes.

Drilling has been suspended at Paris temporarily to enable consolidation of pending assays and geological interpretations.

Investigator plans to begin drilling again in late April to undertake large diameter coring to obtain metallurgical samples.

The company is undergoing an aggressive 23,000 metre drilling campaign in 2012, with 10,000 metres of that to be carried out at Paris alone. The remaining 13,000 metres will be carried out on three other locations.

Meanwhile, a geophysical induced polarisation survey is underway at Paris to refine and extend drill targeting.

Investigator is aiming to deliver a maiden JORC Resource to the market around mid-2012.

The Paris prospect is the most advanced of five priority targets within the Peterlumbo epithermal field, located about 400 kilometres northwest of Adelaide.

The 583 square kilometre tenement area is subject to the Peterlumbo Joint Venture between Investigator Resources (75% interest and manager) and Mega Hindmarsh (25% interest).

Strong Investor Backing

Investigator is capturing market attention and has been on an upwards share trajectory since announcing further high grade silver intersections, including the impressive 1 metre at 22,500g/t from 66 metres, in February.

Shares were trading at around A$0.19 in early February and hit highs of $0.42 at the beginning of March, marking a 121% increase.

They are currently trading at around $0.35, up 7.58% today on the back of the new high grade intersections.

Investigator Resources: Paris silver prospect reveals potential early on

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) continues to intersect strong visible silver mineralisation around a previously drilled aircore hole that finished in 4 metres at 1,052 grams per tonne (g/t) silver within the Paris silver prospect on the Eyre Peninsula.

Five diamond drill holes and six reverse circulation percussion (RCP) drill holes have been completed on Line 7, confirming the potential for extensive, shallow and high grade silver mineralisation within the large Paris prospect.

The new visual intersections of 7 to 10 metres downhole thickness indicate a high grade silver zone of at least 80 metres width across section.

The prior aircore intersection of 4 metres at 1,052g/t silver to the bottom of the hole has been potentially extended by a 19 metre intersection of visible mineralisation in one hole that twinned and drilled deeper than the earlier aircore hole.

Managing Director John Anderson said the large Paris silver prospect continues to produce early and very positive drill results with considerable upside potential.

“On seeing the new sulphide intersections on Line 7, Investigator decided to move the RCP rig immediately onto an extensive program of drilling the highly prospective strike extensions,” he said.

“We were confident to do this ahead of receiving the first assays that are expected very soon.”

Elsewhere, multiple intersections of lower tenor sulphide mineralisation are interpreted to be of flat-lying sheets of more moderate but still highly prospective mineralisation extending away from the high grade zone and across at least 400 metres of the Line 7 cross section.

Prior work has shown native silver is hosted in pyrite (iron sulphide) where closely associated with lead and zinc sulphides.

The presence of these sulphides is considered a good indicator of silver mineralisation prior to assaying.

The new reverse circulation percussion drilling will extend testing to Lines 8 and 9 then onto previously undrilled Lines 10 and 11 as far as 400 metres north of Line 7.

Drilling on Lines 1 to 6 will test the prospect as far as 600 metres south of Line 7. The drilling will focus on the initial high grade target indicated by prior aircore holes to extend north and possibly south of the strong intersections on Line 7.

Investigator Resources hits visual sulphide mineralisation at Paris silver prospect

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has intersected three visual intervals of sulphide mineralisation, including massive sulphides, from the first two holes of the drilling program that commenced on November 26 at the Paris silver prospect.

The two diamond holes completed so far on Drill Line 7 were following up previous "stunning" high grade silver intersections of up to 3,970 grams per tonne (g/t) silver announced at the prospect in October.

The visual intersections support the preliminary geological model and significant mineralisation potential at the prospect on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia.

Despite the challenge of slow drilling conditions, the visual results are a promising start to the new drilling campaign at Paris.

John Anderson, Investigator Resources' managing director, said “the early results of the diamond drilling continue to upgrade the substantial silver potential of lateral and depth extensions within the large Paris mineral system.”

The company said the thicknesses and positions of the sulphide intersections are consistent with the target model, being on the margins of extensively altered and brecciated rhyolite intrusives.

As silver grades cannot be visually estimated, core samples are being cut for immediate submission for laboratory analysis with results anticipated late January.

A second drill rig is now on site to improve progress. The drill crews will break for Christmas on 20th December and will resume drilling on 6th January.

The Paris prospect is the most advanced of five priority targets within the Peterlumbo epithermal field, located about 400 kilometres northwest of Adelaide.

The 583 square kilometre tenement area is subject to the Peterlumbo Joint Venture between Investigator Resources (holding 75% and Manager) and Mega Hindmarsh Pty Ltd (25% interest).

New Diamond Drilling

The new drilling is testing lateral and depth extensions to high grade silver intersections in prior shallow vertical drilling along Drill Line 7.

The diamond holes are being inclined at 60 degrees angle and have nominal completion depths of 250 metres.

The holes will also evaluate preliminary interpretations of the geological geometry and mineralisation vectors made from the earlier limited drilling.

The first hole was drilled as a shakedown hole on the western end of Line 7 and completed to 260 metres downhole depth.

The second hole was designed to drill adjacent to the best intersection of 4 metres at 1,052 grams per tonne silver at the bottom of a prior hole on the eastern end of the line.

Both holes intersected shallow sulphide mineralisation comprising pyrite (iron sulphide), galena (lead sulphide) and sphalerite (zinc sulphide).

Line 7 is one of nine lines of drill holes that encountered silver mineralisation over an area of 800 metres by 400 metres and open at depth and possibly in all directions.

The similar sulphide assemblage for the three intervals of sulphides intersected to date by the new diamond drilling and their location on extensions to prior silver intersections raises the likelihood these will also carry silver values.

Both parties are contributing.

The next step

The Paris prospect offers a wealth of high priority drilling opportunities which are being expedited, with a contingent drilling plan with four diamond core holes planned to be completed on Drill Line 7 followed by about 4,000 metres of reverse circulation percussion drilling of the immediate depth and lateral extensions to the Paris prospect.

Investigator said that it is intended the diamond drilling on Line 7 will commence in November with a contractor and joint venture/heritage/government approvals being sought.

This initial drilling will provide structural information to verify or revise the shallow dipping sheet model and will be extended to 200 metres depth to test the prospect to nominal open pit depths.

The contingent reverse circulation percussion drill pattern will be adjusted according to the results of the diamond drilling with downhole depths of 200 metres also planned for these holes.

Funding strategy - fully underwritten rights

Last month Investigator launched a three for seven non-renounceable rights, which will raise up to $8.3 million through the issue of up to 75.7 million new shares. The issue price will be $0.11, and is a discount to the last traded price of $0.135.

Most importantly for the capital raising program, and showing a major vote of confidence in the company's operations, the issue is fully underwritten by Austock Securities.

Shareholders will also be provided with the opportunity to further increase their shareholding in the company by applying for shares in excess of their pro rata entitlement.

Investigator Resources' high grade Paris silver discovery keeps getting better

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has unfurled further new high grade intersections of up to 29 ounces per tonne of silver at its Paris discovery in South Australia from next stage drill results.

Shallow intersections in new Paris Northeast target are consistently high grade within 300 metres long and open trend with one best intersection of 4 metres at 913g/t silver from 72m to bottom of hole.

The latest assay results indicate the Paris Prospect must rank as an outstanding silver discovery with continued high grade results and the widespread silver intersections have identified two new mineralised targets – one in the northeast and the other in the southeast of the prospect.

The balance of assays for last 29 shallow holes drilled in July significantly expands the size, number and calibre of silver targets within the Paris Prospect

The prospect is located within the Peterlumbo JV on Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

Highlights from vertical drilling on nominal 50 metres by 100 metres pattern include:

New Paris Northeast Primary Target (Four effective drill tests below spaced at 100 metres)

- 4 metres at 913 g/t Ag (silver) from 72 metres to BOH (bottom of hole) in fresh bedrock;
- 3 metres at 554g/t Ag from 90 metres to BOH in brown pyritic clay; and
- 12 metres at 211g/t Ag from 60 metres.

Extension to initial Secondary Lead Spine Target

- 19 metres at 119g/t Ag from 57m to BOH including 9 metres at 202g/t Ag from 60m;
- 51 metres at 35g/t Ag from 6 metres including 12 metres at 7.0% Pb (lead); and
– 9 metres at 73g/t Ag from 27m to BOH.

New Paris Southeast Primary Target

- 6 metres at 170g/t Ag 3.3% Pb 0.33g/t Au (gold) from 42 metres;
- 24 metres at 3.2% Pb from 12 metres; and
- 23 metres at 60g/t Ag from 39 metres to BOH including 3 metres at 360g/t Ag from 39 metres.

John Anderson, Investigator Resources managing director, said "the silver intersections at the new Paris Northeast target were consistently high grade with the best of 913g/t over 4 metres to the bottom of a hole in fresh sulphide bedrock, compared with the previous highest grade result of 252g/t over 12 metres in the overlying supergene zone, announced on August 18."

“At about 31 grams to the troy ounce, we are now talking multiple ounces per tonne in some of these intersections at a time of strengthening silver prices.”

The breakthrough with the highest grade intersection in fresh sulphide bedrock, confirms abundant depth potential beneath prior intersections in weathered supergene zone.

The company said fine visible dark sulphides intermixed with pyrite and quartz in primary zone are likely silver minerals.

600 metres of strongly silver-mineralised strike length has been identified to date with lateral extensions open for further drill testing to the north, east and west as well as at depth.

The prospect is the most advanced of five priority targets within the newly-recognised Peterlumbo epithermal field, located about 400km northwest of Adelaide.

The increased tenor and consistency of the new Northeast intersections, particularly the high grade intersection in fresh bedrock, have significantly upgraded the Paris discovery.

Near surface discovery

All Investigator's drilling and intersections are within 120 metres of the surface. As the high grade intersections get deeper to the east, the soil signature at the surface that defined the company's original target envelope becomes weaker.

This means Investigator's target envelope has expanded with both its primary targets being open to the east as well as at depth along a combine strike length of at least 600 metres.

The project area is subject to the Peterlumbo Joint Venture between IVR (holding 75% and Manager) and Mega Hindmarsh Pty Ltd (25% interest).

The Paris Prospect has advanced at every stage of exploration with the latest drill assays providing the most significant upgrade thus far.

Abundant drilling opportunities are identified around and beneath the prospect to build on the outstanding early results.

The Paris Northeast and Southeast targets are open at depth and to the east with a combine strike length of at least 600m, with the targets also open to the north and south respectively.

A larger drill rig is being sought to test the deeper extensions with early diamond coring also proposed to obtain quantitative structural data.

Further drilling of the lateral extensions with aircore/slimline hammer is also warranted.

The shallow depths of the secondary mineralisation and high-grade primary intersections to date provide potential advantages for open-pit and bulk mining if further drilling establishes a resource at the Paris Prospect.

John Anderson, managing director, told Proactive Investors today "the Paris discovery opens up the potential of the Eyre Peninsula where IVR has backed its ideas and approach with a dominant tenement position.

"Recognising a large epithermal field at Peterlumbo and the application of regional soil geochemistry led us to the Paris discovery with another four similar targets waiting to be tested within 10km of Paris.

"IVR has at least another three target areas defined by the regional soil geochemistry across a 150km belt as possible mineralisation centres like Peterlumbo – not only for silver but copper and gold as well."

Analysis

The results to date from Paris Prospect are an extraordinary start for Investigator given the high grade, and the widespread silver intersections. The potential to define a resource and fast track and potentially develop an open pittable mine must be considered very good.

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has intersected high-grade silver and lead from initial drilling at the Paris prospect within its Peterlumbo project area, indicating a major mineralised system.

The results indicate broad and shallow intersections in adjacent vertical drill holes at the prospect on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

Highlights include: 29 metres at 155 grams per tonne (g/t) silver (Ag) & 2.5% lead (Pb) from 3 metres to bottom of hole (BOH); including 11 metres at 84.5 g/t Ag, 0.45 g/t gold (Au), 6.6% Pb from 21 metres to BOH.

In addition, numerous other shallow regolith intersections indicate a primary target zone 150 metres in width and at least 400 metres long in underlying fresh bedrock.

The assay results are from the first 40 holes of the recent 69 hole drill program at the Paris prospect, one of five priority targets at the Peterlumbo Joint Venture.

The company is now eagerly awaiting assays from drilling along a further 500 metre extensions to the target. The other 29 holes of the drill program that also intersected prospective geology are anticipated to extend the mineralised target zone to 900 metres in length.

John Anderson, Investigator's managing director, said “the Paris silver lead prospect continues to advance at every stage of exploration, so we are looking forward to the rest of the drill assays and getting back in with the drill rig to follow up the exciting intersections."

The prospect is the most advanced of five priority silver-in-soil geochemical targets and it is the first time that lead intersections have been encountered in the Peterlumbo field where silver was intersected by initial scout drilling in January 2011.

The intersected mineralisation is interpreted by Investigator Resources’ geologists as the weathered representation of deeper sulphide mineralisation.

There is potential within a 150 metre wide and at least 400 metre long target zone for both shallow supergene silver lead deposits extending away from the discovery holes and primary sulphide deposits of silver lead.

There is also a possibility of zinc and copper beneath the drilling that averaged 68 metre depth and rarely reached fresh bedrock.

The project area is held by the Peterlumbo Joint Venture between Investigator, holding 75% interest and is manager, and Mega Hindmarsh Pty Ltd with a 25% interest.

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has intersected promising geology over a wide area after completing drilling across the full extent of its Paris silver prospect, following the strong silver intersection by the initial scout drilling during January.

The company is continuing to progress the Paris silver prospect at pace with very good visual results in the latest drilling. Results indicate a large epithermal system is coincident with the 1,200 metre long x 200 to 400 metre wide geochemical target at the prospect.

The 68 hole program of aircore and hammer drilling totalled 4,600 metres and followed up a previous shallow scout intersection of 8 metres at 190 grams per tonne (g/t) silver at the edge of the target area.

A prospective package of carbonate and graphitic rocks, skarn, jasperoidal silica and pyritic clays was intersected under cover throughout the target area.

John Anderson, managing director of Investigator Resources, told Proactive Investors today "there are at least another three soil anomalous areas along our 150km long tenement belt showing similar evidence of large mineralised centres that are awaiting further exploration.

"So our approach on Eyre Peninsula of careful ground selection and exploration through thin cover using modern geochemistry is paying dividends.

“The only previous effective drill test intersected 8 metres of nearly six ounces of silver that is open at depth and is on the edge of the target. So we are pleased the new drilling intersected a prospective package of carbonate and graphitic rocks, showing epithermal and skarn alteration, under most of the 1,200 metre by 200 to 400 metre area of the Paris target,” Anderson added.

The company said "multi-phase intrusives support the interpretation of a subvolcanic mineralisation centre with silver, gold and base metal potential at shallow depth." Drill assays are expected in August.

The Paris prospect is the most advanced of five priority silver-in-soil geochemical targets within a newly-recognised epithermal field at Peterlumbo, situated approximately 400 kilometres northwest of Adelaide on Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia.

Investigator Resources announced on June 2 that it raised $1.1 million through a private placement of 21,568,627 shares at $0.051 to fund exploration works at the Peterlumbo and Bute projects.

The Peterlumbo exploration project is being explored under a Joint Venture between Investigator (75% interest and Manager) and Mega Hindmarsh Pty Ltd (25% interest).

The JV applies to Exploration Licence 4228 covering a 583km2 area located about 400km northwest of Adelaide.

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has upgraded its Peterlumbo Joint Venture on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia after new soil analysis results have underpinned the project’s priority silver prospect.

The geochemical analysis results of infill soil sampling at the Paris target zone within Peterlumbo support the prospect's potential, which has already produced a high grade silver intersection from very limited drilling.

The large silver target was previously identified as extending from a prior shallow drill intersection of 8 metres at 190 grams per tonne (g/t) silver.

Infill soil sampling has defined the target as a coherent and high-amplitude silver anomaly with dimensions of 1,200 metres in length and up to 400 metres width.

The company plans to follow up drill testing of the upgraded Paris silver target in June.

John Anderson, managing director, said “the extremely encouraging silver intersection of 8 metres at 190g/t silver made in January at an early stage of exploration prompted the infill soil sampling. This was undertaken in April so we could refine the target ahead of further drilling.”

The new results increase the tenor of the soil values with 90% of the upgraded target area showing higher silver-in-soil values than the reading over the prior drill intersection.

The highest soil value of 1,629 parts per billion (ppb) silver is significantly larger than the soil analysis of 113ppb over the drill intersection.

The drill hole that achieved the previous silver intersection is the only effective drill test and is on the edge of what the company now recognises as the very large Paris target.

Investigator Resources has Commonwealth Bank as substantial shareholder

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) has received a major vote of confidence in the company's operations, with Commonwealth Bank (ASX: CBA) announcing that the bank is now a substantial shareholder in Investigator.

Commonwealth Bank spent $750,000 on buying just over 14.7 million shares in Investigator, at an entry price of around $0.051.

Commonwealth Bank currently holds 8.3% of Investigator.

The big banks interest in Investigator might be due to the explorers recent success, after delivering encouraging magnetite intersections at the Jungle Dam iron project in South Australia.

The highlight is that Investigator has now identified a consistent magnetite mineralisation assaying 25% to 31% iron along a 600 metre length of the Central Zone.

Potential still remains for a further extension, as the strike remains open to the south.

Importantly, there is also a higher-grade oxidised blanket of secondary iron above the primary magnetite iron formation in the Central Zone, with grades reaching 54%.

This provides the potential for direct shipping ore from starter pits, providing early cashflow, before going on to access the underlying magnetite.

What adds to Jungle Dam is the favourable location on the Eyre Peninsula, close to the coast and rail, about 150 kilometres by road west of the proposed loading facility at Port Bonython and the railhead at Port Augusta.

Investigator Resources (ASX: IVR) first assays from scout drilling at Peterlumbo identify that the project has some potential, with an intersection of; 20 metres at 84ppm (parts per million) silver, including 6 metres at 220ppm silver.

Complete assays are anticipated but are still pending for the holes 200 metres and 400 metres further along the prospective trend.

Investigator said many other widely spaced holes over the 15 square kilometre area are anomalous in silver, gold, zinc, lead, copper or uranium, and show another mineralised trend at least 5 kilometres long.

John Anderson, managing director, has welcomed these initial results, and said, “The results show we are 'first comers' to a large and genuine epithermal field.

"With exploration just commencing, Investigator Resources considers there is abundant opportunity to locate optimum structural settings for potential high-grade silver and gold deposits.”

The market has applauded the result, with Investigator shares up 21% to $0.115 in intra-day trading.

Southern Uranium finds high grade iron from rock chips at Jungle Dam

Southern Uranium (ASX: SNU) has located new high-grade iron outcrops that further advance the iron ore prospects of the company’s Jungle Dam project on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia.

New prospecting, detailed magnetic surveying and a revised prospectivity model have upgraded the potential for shallow haematite as Direct Shipping Ore (DSO).

Rock chip samples assayed 55.5% to 59.6% iron from limited outcrops within 2km-long magnetic zone.

John Anderson, managing director, said Southern Uranium has revised its strategy at Jungle Dam to focus on the potential for higher grade and shallow haematite as DSO and plans to commence drilling of highpriority areas at the earliest opportunity.

The company’s objective is to determine whether an iron ore resource could be established to Inferred Category by early 2011.

“Our prospecting located new high-grade outcrops of iron formation assaying from 55% to nearly 60% iron within a large magnetic zone named Central West,” Anderson said.

“This significantly increases the prospectivity for shallow high-grade haematite at Jungle Dam."

“The new magnetic data maps the Central West Zone as a fold nose where the outcropping high iron grades and interpreted thicknesses indicate the original iron formation is structurally enhanced.”

“In contrast, our initial drilling along the less disrupted iron formation in the Central Zone to the east showed grades of 20 to 40% iron and horizontal widths of up to 45 metres. Importantly, that drilling demonstrated that a 70m thick weathered blanket of higher-grade haematite overlies the primary magnetite iron formation.”

The higher outcropping iron grades have refocussed Southern Uranium’s exploration on the Central West Zone and other similar magnetic zones showing structural complexity.

These areas have excellent potential for shallow high-grade haematite. Preliminary modelling of the new magnetic data at Central West indicates the weathered haematite blanket extends to 100m depth beneath the outcrops.

“Southern Uranium is preparing to do a detailed gravity survey over the Central West zone to better map the haematite-prospective areas,” Anderson said.

“This will assist the prioritisation of targets for the next round of drilling planned to start as soon as a drill contractor is secured.”

The Jungle Dam iron ore project is held 100% by Southern Uranium under Exploration Licence 3479 “Lake Gilles” on east Eyre Peninsula. Over 14km of prospective iron formation are delineated by magnetics to extend south of the Hercules iron ore resource held by another company.

The geological sequence is correlated with the Middleback iron formation at the OneSteel (ASX: OST) mining operations situated about 50km to the southeast of Jungle Dam.

Three new prospective and undrilled zones are interpreted to lie within the same structural corridor containing the Wilcherry Hill skarn magnetite deposits and Weednanna gold deposit held by another company to the northwest.

A detailed gravity survey is planned to prepare for early drill testing at Central West and other similar new magnetic targets.

Southern Uranium to kick off drilling at Ridgeback copper gold targets

Southern Uranium (ASX:SNU), a mineral resources exploration company focussed on copper, gold and uranium has resumed aggressive exploration of its extensive target portfolio across the southern Gawler Craton in South Australia.

This follows the successful completion of its rights issue to shareholders to raise A$4.6 million.

Drill testing of copper gold targets at Ridgeback on the Yorke Peninsula will start this week and the company is also advancing its exploration of other high priority areas on the adjacent Eyre Peninsula later in the calendar year.

Today’s drilling announcement is the third since May concerning progress with the company’s portfolio. On May 18, SNU announced drilling had made substantial iron ore intersections at the Jungle Dam prospect on the Eyre Peninsula.

On July 2, the company announced mapping had located strong silver gold potential at Peterlumbo, also on the Eyre Peninsula.

John Anderson, managing director, said the company was vigorously pursuing its target opportunities following encouraging results from its own exploration and Rex Minerals' (ASX: RXM) July 28 announcement of its large inferred resource of copper and gold at Hillside.

“Southern Uranium has formed a large tenement package based on our prospectivity model and we now have excellent opportunities to develop and expand our diverse portfolio of copper, gold, silver, uranium, iron ore and manganese targets,” Anderson said.

Drill contractor John Nitschke Drilling is secured to start testing Southern Uranium’s North Ridgeback magnetic and gravity targets on 1st September.

The targets lie along the interpreted extension of Pine Point Fault Zone and are considered analogous to the Hillside copper gold deposits that are located within the same fault zone on the eastern side of Yorke Peninsula.

“The timely availability of the drilling contractor, the grant of collaborative drilling funding by the State Government and Rex Minerals’ recent announcement of an inferred resource at Hillside only two years after that discovery all augur well for the upcoming drilling of the exciting Ridgeback targets,” Anderson said.

Two 600m long inclined diamond drill holes are planned to test the 400m deep magnetic target and adjacent gravity target. The drilling is expected to be completed within three weeks.

Southern Uranium is also vigorously pursuing its diverse target opportunities on Eyre Peninsula.

During August, new mapping located additional prospective outcrops at the Jungle Dam iron ore project and within the newly identified Peterlumbo epithermal field with silver gold potential.

Detailed helicopter-borne magnetic/radiometric surveys were also undertaken in August over both of these areas.

Anderson said the new data was being processed to enable interpretation of prospective units or structures extending from the subtle and limited outcrops.

Detailed calcrete sampling completed over a 2km by 1.5km area of the Botenella Gate gold silver target near Jungle Dam is awiting analysis.

“We are seeking another drill contractor to recommence drilling of the iron ore target zones at Jungle Dam in late September or early October,” Anderson said.

“By that time the new calcrete analyses will be available for the nearby Botenella Gate prospect so we will consider drilling that large gold silver target as well.”

Southern Uranium is also continuing field evaluation at Hopcrafts Dam of copper gold silver and uranium soil anomalies and extensions to iron manganese anomalous outcrops.

First pass soil sampling has resumed on extensions to uranium and gold anomalies at the Yalanda Hill Joint Venture with Adelaide Resources Ltd (SNU 40% interest with right to increase to 60%).

Southern Uranium’s unified prospectivity model is being strengthened by the positive exploration results. An upgraded prospectivity model underpins the promising outlook for this diverse and highly prospective exploration portfolio in the southern Gawler Craton.

In addition to the upcoming Ridgeback drilling, the company plans to continue to prioritise and drill test the resulting pipeline of copper gold, iron ore, uranium and silver gold targets over the next six months.
