Naked Trader - one should never "try and find a trade" out of boredomNovember 20 2013, 2:08pm
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too. This includes asking me what to do with a share, what I might "think" about a share or deconstructing any of the buys I mention here. I would be grateful, see FAQ for more on this. Of course more than happy to answer general questions not related to specific shares.
Well, great news for me this week, the icing on the cake of an amazing year for me, never thought I could make so much money so quickly.
Wow. I made nearly £60,000 overnight thanks to news from Telecom Plus (LON:TEP) with my holding having now raced up to nearly £700,000. A pity three quarters of it is in share certificates and so when it comes to selling the Government will be sticking its paws in for its share in tax, though I have quite a few in the ISA too luckily.
However I have to plans to sell any till it's in the FTSE 100. More on this later.
Right now I'm not doing much. Unless you count various TV box sets I'm currently going through.
Why? Well, the markets tend to be weak between now and early December so unless anything really gets me going it's not coming in.
And also the shares I have continue to do well and the money keeps going up so no rush!
And finally one should never "try and find a trade" out of boredom. That is silly.
I'm happy to sit and wait. Indeed I made most of my big money by: doing absolutely nothing!
The people that lose and don't make much? They make endless trades, sell them way to quick and then hang onto the losers. It really is more simple than you think.
If you are trading because you are bored take up a new hobby. How about origami?
Anyway after saying all that I realise I have made 4 buys this week!
BUY ONE: I put in for some shares in new issue Infinis (LON:INFI) and was allocated 2,288 shares at 260. Bit of a profit already as they went up to 270, not exactly a major reward but sticking with it to see how it goes. Probably one just to keep hold of.
And yet more issues around. I decided to pass on Bonmarche (LON:BON). I can't see the point in buying what is a boring retailer.
Graphene's a new type of material expected to revolutionise medicine and manufacturing with light but strong and conductive properties.
They reckon interest in Graphene is growing but up till now it hasn't grown as it's been hampered because it's been hard to produce it efficiently and to scale.
So, it could be the next big thing. Or it all might fizzle out. One of those ones where it might be worth having a nibble but realise risks are there. So I had a nibble and if I hadn't been scoffing toast early doors I would have got a better price today.
In a year I bet the price will be either double or half. It's one of those. If it starts to tumble I shall exit fast with a small loss.
BUY THREE: Avation (LON:AVAP) - I sold some then bought them back - the shares really took off and raced higher over a month so topsliced a few at 128.57 to take out one of the web positions for a profit of £1,128.
Then there was a shake out yesterday, the shares crashed down so I bought them back at 112.9. Today they announced a very decent trading update and they sold two planes. All that is left is to tuckaway the shares now.
BUY FOUR: Dialight (LON:DIA) has slipped quite a way because growth wasn't as good as expected but as I said last time well below a tenner looks like a place to pick up a few. I nipped 500 at 909.3 on the basis there is strong support on level 2 at 900 and that directors have being buying hard at these levels. I've taken massive profits on these in the last few months and they've made me over £100,000. I still hold a longer-term position from the early 200s.
I suspect next year things will improve and they will head back up to the 1200 mark again..
Oh and buy 5 to be.. that will be new shares in Telecom Plus which I can buy at 1475 in the open offer... I shall be taking up my full entitlement and why wouldn't I with the shares now at 1700 !!
Petrofac (LON:PFC) spreadbet was automatically closed by a trailing stop at 1242 - I only realised when I got an email as I don't follow it closely. Some kind of warning and it closes out at a profit of £270. Still got a small long-term holding there where I have four timed even after the fall.
So total profits banked today is £1,398.
Tons of really good news for the portfolio this week and for me personally more than £60,000 profits have rolled in thanks to the Telecom Plus amazing news. And it now means I have a massive stake in there worth nearly £700,000.
The Telecom Plus open positions on the website now total profits of £270,000. Now who said buy and hold doesn't work?
They did a stunning deal - buying its energy companies from N Power for £218m. A real forward thinking move that will not only raise profits substantially but mean they can really go for much lower energy prices really challenging the big six suppliers with lower prices
This should swell its number of customers and eventually push it into the FTSE 100. Its share prices has soared today and there is more to come.
Holders can now buy 1 new share for every 35 at 1475 - given the current price is 1700 you'd be silly not to ! I will.
Full marks to management at the company and in particular head cheese Charles Wigoder. A sensational businessman who brought the business which was making a loss to a stock market wonder. Having met him a few times I would also say he is a fantastic chap and great fun, knows how to live life well and also a top poker player!
If you'd like to go with them for energy and telephony let me know as I have been a distributor for them since 1998. If you do go with them via me not only do you get cheaper energy and telephony but you get my weekly email with
all the website stuff sent to early in your inbox and also higher risk buys made in my sipp
Mail me if interested at email@example.com with "mail offer" in the subject line.
And the good news kept coming for me this week!
However will keep hold of it a bit longer just in case of a rival bidder.
Recent buy Telit (LON:TCM) couldn't break through the 150 and then did it in style, one suspects a seller has finally been cleared out, hopeful for a move up to near the 2 quid level.
Regeneris has been shooting up and managed to conquer the 300 mark, what a great trade that has been!
Renew is really paying off now with some nice rises.
32 Red (LON:TTR) has had a brilliant time - up another good ten per cent this week and it looks like my original buy is going to be a doubler.
Kentz (LON:KENZ) has been rising again. Perhaps the fact the big didn't go through is good news as in time a new bidder might have to pay an awful lot more.
GB continues to push up and this one has more or less become a doubler for me.
So what can I say? An amazing week! And an amazing year.
