    Alibaba Group Holding (NYSE:BABA) soared in its market debut today, trading as much as 46 percent above its initial public offering price of $68 and making the Chinese e-commerce company one of the most valuable companies in the U.S. The stock opened at $92.70 and nearly hit $100 on the New York Stock Exchange.

    TSX hits 5-week low; miners slump with falling gold

    Canadian shares fell to a five-week low after raw-materials miners slumped as gold hit the lowest level since January. The resource-heavy benchmark Standard & Poor’s/TSX Composite Index (TSE:OSPTX) dropped 0.9 percent to 15,316.53 at 12:43 p.m. in Toronto. The gauge had earlier touched 15,311.41, the lowest intraday price since Aug. 15. Four shares declined for every stock that advanced, with 9 out of 10 major falling.
