National Milk Records roots are in the Milk Marketing Board, providing analysis of the individual cow’s milk to dairy farmers, enabling decisions on herd management that maximise efficiency.

Complementary subsidiaries, National Milk Laboratories and National Livestock Records analyse most of the liquid milk produced in the UK for the milk buyers, and  provide  information to the red meat industry.

Current turnover £15m; the group invests in developing new services and is well placed to meet the demand from government, retailers and consumers for produce that can be traced to producers with the highest welfare standards from animals free of disease.

The NMR Group is structured on three wholly owned subsidiary businesses which reflect the sectors in which we operate: National Milk Records, National Milk Laboratories and National Livestock records.

National Milk Records (NMR) is the leading supplier of milk recording services in the UK, providing management information on individual cow's performance in terms of milk quality, yield and fertility. It is acknowledged by the industry that NMR is the market leader in the provision and support of dairy software in Great Britain. NMR also supplies aggregate data to over 35 dairy industry bodies including milk buyers, DairyCo and breed societies as well as forming the basis for food providence schemes for retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury and Marks and Spencer. The farmer is the NMR customer and our recording services reach the cows which produce 60% of the UK's milk. To contact your Area Field Manager, click on the following link.

National Milk Laboratories (NML) provides payment and quality testing for all major milk buyers in the UK such as Dairy Crest, Arla, Wiseman, First Milk and Milk Link. NML receives bulk milk samples from 98% of UK dairy farms for every collection of milk made by the milk buyer. NML also runs national statutory testing programmes on behalf of DEFRA and the Food Standards Agency.

National Livestock Records (NLR) is a development business which is utilising the expertise gained in the dairy sector from NMR and NML to build service provision in the Red Meat Sector. Traceability, Food Providence and need to improve efficiency are all key drivers in the Red Meat Sector and we believe we can add considerable value in these areas. Luckily others also believe this and NLR has recently been commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government to build a sheep EID database for the Supply Chain Efficiency project, TAG.

NMR has widened the range of milk recording services to suit the unique requirements of every management practice. We offer a range of services which allow you to choose the frequency of visits and the detail of on-farm recordings. 

In addition to core milk recording services the NMR group is able to offer many other services including payment testing through National Milk Laboratories (NML), disease testing, microbiology, Ear tags through Nordic Star, fertility management tools and transport services which are listed on the left.
