Argentina’s Deseado Massif gold-silver district was in focus today with with next door neighbours Mariana Resources and Minera IRL delivering upbeat news. Minera’s Escondido project borders Mariana’s Calandria Sur – and according to analysts shares the same gold mineralisation.

Shares in Mariana Resources were given a boost this morning by the latest drilling results, which confirmed the company’s Calandria Sur prospect in Argentina as a bulk tonnage silver and gold deposit. The news prompted FinnCap, the company’s broker, to increase its price target on shares in the miner to 64 pence from 48 pence (current price 52 pence).

Today the Patagonia-focused miner gave an update on its drilling programme. The most interesting aspect of it was the discovery of gold in the volcanic rock surrounding the rhyolite dome structure which hosts the potential resource.
