In a statement, the AIM-listed firm said approximately fifty IOCG targets have been identified by the company in the broader region, with around half located in ground held by Greatland.

WATCH: Greatland out 'looking for a taste of Gold' at Ernest Giles East

The group said a review of historical exploration activity indicates that many of the new targets exhibit a similar geophysical signature to the company's Havieron target and have the potential for hosting similar copper and gold mineralisation.

Greatland said it is currently planning field activities for the second half of 2017 aimed at highlighting the presence of multiple IOCG occurrences in the region.

Gervaise Heddle, Greatland’s chief executive officer, commented: "We are very excited by the results of this extensive data review which highlight the potential for a new IOCG district in Western Australia.”

He added: “Over the next few weeks, we intend to prioritise the multiple regional targets for further follow up work, while we also prepare our plans for exploration work at the Havieron target itself."

The Paterson project covers over 360 square kilometres in the Paterson region of Western Australia and includes both the Havieron licence (acquisition announced 26 September 2016) and the Paterson Range East licence (application announced 6 June 2017).

Limited historical drilling (six drill holes) by Newcrest during the 1990s demonstrated high grade gold and copper mineralisation at the Havieron target.

Shares gained 13.4% to 0.58p.

In addition, a ground gravity survey across Ernest Giles East is expected to commence within the next few weeks. Results of the exploration programme are likely to be disclosed in September 2017.

The work seeks to demonstrate the broader potential for gold mineralisation based around a 3.2 kilometre by 400 metre spaced geochemical survey and a 1.6 kilometre by 200 metre spaced gravity survey.

Results from these surveys will be used to establish gold exploration targets for follow up work and drilling.

The Ernest Giles East area covers approximately 600 square kilometres, including a large 80km long north-south trending sequence of rocks which represent an extension of the gold-prospective Ernest Giles greenstone sequences.

This exploration programme follows on from the identification of two large zones of gold mineralisation at the Meadows target in the south-west corner of the project.

"This survey is a natural progression following successful demonstration last year of the presence of large zones of gold mineralisation on the Western side of the Ernest Giles project,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“We hope that this new exploration programme will highlight the prospectivity of the new Eastern licences, licence areas where virtually no modern exploration has taken place, and confirm our belief in the potential of this exciting new gold district to host several multi-million ounce deposits."

Ahead of the completion of the deal, Pacific Trends has been granted the exploration licence 45/4701 for the project.

Greatland, which first announced the acquisition in September 2016, will pay AU$25,000 in cash and the issuance of 65,490,000 ordinary shares.

The company plans to begin a tightly-spaced gravity survey over the Havieron target in the fourth quarter that will be used to finalise the drill targets.

The Havieron project is located in the Paterson region of Western Australia, about 40km east of Newcrest's Telfer gold mine, which has produced more than 27 ounces of gold to date.

Historical geophysical data at Havieron shows a target covering about 1,000m by 1,000m.

At the moment, Greatland is undertaking a review of new regional exploration data that covers both the Havieron and Paterson Range East projects. Findings from this review are expected to be announced shortly.

“We are very pleased to be able to proceed with the acquisition of this exciting gold/copper project in a region that is seeing increased interest from major mining companies,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“We expect to move forward quickly with on the ground exploration activities as we seek to confirm our belief in the potential for a large gold/copper resource at Havieron.”#

The area has virtually not been subject to historical exploration and the exploration programme will include Mobile Metal Ion surface geochemistry, broad-spaced gravity traverses and geological field reconnaissance. The results of the exploration programme are expected by September 2017.

The main objective of the programme is to highlight the potential prospectivity of these almost untested new licences and to establish gold exploration targets for further follow-up work, the company said.

The Ernest Giles gold project is home to several successful exploration discoveries such as the Tropicana - AngloGold Ashanti (ASX:AGG) - which contains over 7mln ounces, and Yamarna/Gruyere - Gold Road Resources (ASX:GOR) - with over 6mln ounces.

Greatland Gold is targeting large 5mln-plus ounce deposits and clusters of several camp-type 1mln-plus ounce gold discoveries at Ernest Giles.

The Ernest Giles gold project covers more than 1,800 square km, including a large north-south trending sequence of prospective rocks which represent an extension of the gold prospective greenstone sequences. The Eastern portion of the project, known as Ernest Giles East, is the most remote part of the project and is virtually unexplored.

"Same large scale, 'big company' approach to exploration"

In today's statement, Greatland Gold's CEO, Gervaise Heddle said: "This new exploration programme targeting the Eastern portion of the Ernest Giles gold project is designed with the same large scale, 'big company' approach to exploration that has already yielded significant benefits on other parts of the Ernest Giles project."

He added that the technical team has designed a systematic exploration programme covering both geochemical and geophysical elements, that seeks to demonstrate the potential "for large gold camps" at the Eastern portion.

"We will make further announcements as the various elements of the exploration programme commence. At this stage, we expect initial MMI and gravity results to be received by early September," Heddle said.

The new exploration programme follows on from recent significant developments at the project including the identification of two large zones of gold mineralisation, announced in January 2017, and an agreement with a subsidiary of Newmont Mining PLC (NYSE:NEM), one of the world's largest gold producers.

In early afternoon trasding, Greatland shares were 12.6%, or 0.06p higher at 0.58p.

In a statement, the AIM-listed firm said a total of approximately 1,800 stations were used to collect over 360 line kilometres of gravity data across the Empress, Wishbone and greater Meadows area.

They added: “Good resolution images from the gravity survey were generated and are being systematically reviewed in conjunction with the detailed airborne magnetic data that was recently acquired.”

Greatland said it anticipates that it will follow up this work with an initial broad-spaced gravity survey across the new Ernest Giles East licences, and in-fill gravity work on selected high priority targets in the second half of the year.

Gervaise Heddle, Greatland’s chief executive officer, said: "The data collected from this extensive gravity survey further highlights the potential of the Ernest Giles project to host several, very large, mineralised systems.

“This data, in conjunction with the recently acquired airborne magnetic data, previous soil sampling data and the data from the successful drilling campaign in late 2016, has outlined several additional gold targets in this new gold province where Greatland holds a dominant landholding and we believe this data set will prove to be an excellent tool for guiding future drill campaigns."

This ground covers a total of 130 square kilometres, in an area that Greatland considers to be highly prospective for cobalt, and has dubbed the Panorama project.

Panorama is situated approximately 200 kilometres south east of Port Hedland and occupies a dominant and strategic position across what is potentially the largest coherent cobalt-in-streams anomaly in Western Australia.

WATCH: Greatland Gold's Gervaise Heddle 'very excited' by new Panorama Cobalt project

That conclusion is based on data gathered from stream sediment sampling done by Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) in the early 1970s. This outlined a 25 kilometre long by 10 kilometre wide area that is highly anomalous for cobalt.

Very little exploration work on the project has been carried out since;

In September 2016, the CRU Group estimated that demand for cobalt will grow at an average rate of 5% per annum for the next 10 years.

Cobalt prices have surged for 24 straight weeks, having surged by 150% as technology giants have been battling for the limited supply.

— Share_Talk (@Share_Talk) 5 June 2017

"We believe that the Panorama cobalt project is highly prospective for a large, near surface deposit in an area that has been almost completely ignored by mineral explorers for cobalt for the past forty years,” said Greatland chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Greatland's technical team for their excellent work in identifying, what we believe, could be a considerable opportunity."

In late morning trading, Greatland shares were over 10%, or 0.07p higher at 0.75p.

The additional acreage, covering an additional 224 square kilometres, more than doubles Greatland's interests in the region adjacent to major industry players such as Rio Tinto, Antipa and Newcrest.

WATCH: Capital Network's Sam Catalano on Greatland Gold

The new licence area, Paterson Range East, lies directly north of Greatland's Havieron project and contains several attractive iron oxide copper gold targets that are prospective for copper and gold mineralisation, Greatland said.

The project is close to its existing assets and near to some big names in the mining sector

Historically, several of these targets have been subject to initial first-pass work and show promise at hosting mineralisation, as seen at Havieron. Basement rocks do not outcrop and Greatland intends to employ modern geophysical methods to define targets prior to drill testing.

The new acreage is in a remote area but the infrastructure is good, as one might expect from a region that supports several operating mines.

"We are very pleased to have extended our portfolio of new copper and gold targets near our Havieron project in Western Australia. This ties in with our stated strategy to increase shareholder value by the systematic evaluation of our existing resource assets, as well as the acquisition of suitable exploration and development projects,” said Gervaise Heddle, chief executive officer of Greatland Gold.

Shares in Greatland were up 8.6% at 0.478p on the news.

The company drilled two holes, testing downhole electromagnetic (EM) targets, and intersected silver, zinc and other elements consistent with volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) style systems.

Additionally, the results of the drilling campaign returned low levels of nickel sulphide.

As a result, the strike has been extended to 1.5 kilometres.

Greatland said work at Bromus will now focus on further delineation of these VMS-style systems.

There will be a review of further targets, including gold mineralisation that was recorded in historic drilling some 1.2 kilometres to the north of the latest drilling campaign.

Greatland said one additional target identified by the downhole EM survey conducted last year has still to be tested.

"There has been renewed interest in VMS style deposits in Western Australia after the demonstration of their potential at the DeGrussa deposit and historically at the Golden Grove deposit, a gold copper producer in Western Australia,” said Gervaise Heddle, chief executive officer of Greatland.

“VMS-style deposits can have significant value with their multiple commodities, particularly if they have associated precious metals; consequently, we intend the Bromus Project to focus solely on VMS style deposits and look forward to making progress and updating the market in due course,” he added.

The survey covered a large portion of the 1,800 sq km Ernest Giles gold project, including the recently acquired East tenements.

Gravity and seismic surveys are currently underway and once these are finished Greatland will use the data to narrow its choice of target for drilling.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive, said: "The results of the detailed airborne survey, which was conducted at 100 metre line spacing and includes approximately 38,000 line kilometres of data, will allow Greatland to further refine and accelerate its exploration efforts at Ernest Giles as well as providing us with greater confidence on the potential of this quality project.”

Last week Greatland signed a deal with mining giant Newmont Mining Corp (NYSE:NEM), which has been granted exclusive access to the tenements and exploration database for six months and has the right of first refusal should Greatland opt to sell or joint venture the asset in that period.

Newmont will use certain “proprietary exploration methods” to unlock the potential of Ernest Giles, which covers 1,800-square kilometres of virtually unexplored greenstone belt and is host to a number of potential targets.

There are two large zones of mineralisation to the west and east of the area – 6 kilometres by 1.5 kilometres and 2 kilometres by 1.5 kilometres respectively.

Drilling returns encouraging results

A number of reverse circulation holes have been drilled that have intercepted gold of grades between 1.51 grams per tonne to 2 grams.

The shallowest intercept was at 119 metres, suggesting that Ernest Giles represents could eventually turn out to be a large, relatively near surface deposit.

Of Tuesday’s news, chief executive Gervaise Heddle said: "We are delighted to have entered into this agreement with Newmont which we hope will significantly accelerate the realisation of the potential value of this exciting gold project.

“This agreement represents a major step forward for the Company and reinforces our view that the Ernest Giles project has the potential to host several multi-million ounce gold camps.

"We look forward to working with Newmont's Australian-based team who will be able to bring their extensive collective skills and experience in gold exploration, as well as their industry leading proprietary exploration techniques, and apply them to the vast and virtually unexplored Ernest Giles greenstone belt that is 100% controlled by Greatland.”

Scale of potential piqued Newmont's interest

“Although the terms of the Newmont deal have not been disclosed, the scale of the potential, in an area where there have already been multi-million ounce gold discoveries appears to have piqued the interest of Newmont," said City mining broker SP Angel.

“The project appears to be at a relatively early stage of exploration and no doubt a company of Newmont’s stature will screen a large number of offers until it identifies a project it wishes to advance.

“We look forward to further news indicating whether or not, after the initial period of exploration access, the Ernest Giles project meets Newmont’s criteria.”

Shortly before market close, shares were up 23%, or 0.07p, to 0.39p.

Three of the additional licences, representing an area of 600 sq km to the east of the Ernest Giles project, cover a large north-south trending sequence of prospective rocks (Ernest Giles East).

The fourth licence is contiguous to the existing Ernest Giles tenement area and lies immediately to the north of the Empress target where Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) surface geochemistry detected a 3km long by 1km wide gold in soil anomaly with values peaking at 338ppb gold;

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive, said the company was especially excited about the potential of Ernest Giles East, which represents a continuation of the Ernest Giles greenstone belt.

The new licences take Greatland’s acreage at Ernest Giles to around 1,800 sq km.

There has been very little exploration work on the new areas said Callum Baxter, the explorer’s chief technical officer, but its prior work elsehwre has shown the region is capable of hosting very large mineralised systems.

The aim is to whittle down multiple high priority gold targets across the 1,000 square kilometre project area ahead of further drilling. Greatland expects the survey will take four weeks to complete.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive, added that the first area of fieldwork will be the Meadows target where previous drilling identified two large zones of gold mineralisation

“Once the work at the Meadows target has been completed, we expect the survey teams to move on to other high priority targets including the Empress target in the north-eastern portion of the Ernest Giles greenstone belt.

“Gravity and passive seismic surveys are an integral part of large scale exploration efforts for gold mineralisation and are relatively inexpensive when compared to full-scale drilling campaigns.”

Ernest Giles in central Western Australia, covers an area of more than 1,000 sq km with over 120km of strike of gold and nickel prospective rocks.

The London-listed company made decent headway in the first half of its fiscal year at all of its main projects, which coincided nicely with an uptick in commodity prices.

The price of gold – which, as its name suggests, is Greatland’s main focus – has rallied over the past year or so, buoyed by the global economic and political uncertainty.

The better prices have also led to improved sentiment towards miners as investors come back to a sector they had briefly left when the downturn set in.

“During the first six months of our financial year, general market conditions continued to improve,” chief executive Gervaise Heddle told investors.

“The company believes that accelerating exploration across its portfolio of projects and the acquisition of new projects remains the best path to maximising shareholder value in the short to medium terms as the long anticipated recovery in the commodity sector continues.”

For the six months to 31 December 2016, Greatland reported an operating loss of £608,400 (2015: loss of £227,700).

The increased loss was largely due to higher exploration expenses incurred, as Greatland ramped up operations across all of its projects.

It was most active at its Ernest Giles gold-nickel project in Western Australia where it undertook a wide-spaced drilling campaign.

Results from that came out at the beginning of the second half and identified two large zones of gold mineralisation.

Greatland said progress was also made in the period at its other gold-nickel project in WA, Bromus.

A limited reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign identified “substantial” sulphide mineralisation, while downhole electromagnetic survets conducted shortly after uncovered “several highly conductive targets”.

Adding to its Western Australian portfolio, Greatland completed the acquisition of the Havieron copper-gold for US$750,000 in September.

The other works of note were carried out at the Warrentinna gold project in Tasmania where more RC drilling extended the continuity of gold mineralisation at the Derby North prospect.

As Heddle alluded to, the explorer is continuing to assess new opportunities to add to its portfolio of projects.

Shares gained 0.02p, or 8%, to 0.29p.

<![CDATA[News - Greatland Gold starts drilling at Bromus ]]> http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/175046/greatland-gold-starts-drilling-at-bromus-175046.html Metals explorer Greatland Gold PLC (LON:GGP) told investors this morning that it has started drilling at its Bromus gold and nickel project in Western Australia.

The drill programme consists of two holes that will test two “highly conductive targets” which were identified by downhole electromagnetic (EM) surveys back in November.

The key objective of the drilling – which Greatland received approval for at the start of the month – is to determine the nature of these two “high priority” targets.

“We are very pleased to commence drilling at Bromus and follow up on the work done last year that identified two highly conductive targets,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“In our opinion, both of these high priority targets are prospective for nickel sulphide mineralisation.”

Drilling is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, while assays should be available by the end of April, Greatland said.

Shares closed higher at 0.29p on Friday.

A comprehensive gravity survey across large parts of the will be carried out alongside passive seismic technique at the most promising targets.

One reason is the size of the licence, which is 1,000 sq km, and the large number of prospective targets it contains.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive said: “In order to best prioritise exploration across multiple attractive targets, we believe that it is important for Greatland to invest in a comprehensive gravity survey of large portions of the Ernest Giles greenstone belt.

Both gravity and passive seismic surveys are relatively inexpensive compared to full-scale drilling campaigns, he added.

Callum Baxter, chief technical officer, added: “Gravity information combined with passive seismic, airborne magnetics and deep sensing geochemistry will enhance our ability to 'see through' the cover sequences and better direct our drilling efforts.

“Our view remains that the Ernest Giles project has the potential to host several major gold camps and we hope that these surveys will further demonstrate the potential of this vast and virtually unexplored greenstone belt.”

Greatland has so far identified a Western Zone 6km in length and 1.5km in width and an Eastern zone 2km by 1.5km at Ernest Giles.

Several of the zones were up to 60m thick and reasonably shallow.

The two targets are relatively shallow, well constrained by modelling and can be drilled from existing drill pads, thereby reducing the overall cost of this drilling campaign, it said.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive added: “This drilling campaign will target two of the highly conductive targets that were identified by downhole EM modelling late last year and which, in the opinion of Southern Geosciences Consultants Pty Ltd, represent high priority targets for massive sulphide mineralisation."
