The first campaign also established the presence of a zone of high-grade mineralisation, with peak grades of 137.69 grams gold and 4.11% copper, and demonstrated the potential for Havieron to represent a very large mineralised system.

The new drilling campaign consists of up to ten core holes to a depth of 600 metres each for a total of approximately 6,000 metres.

The drilling programme is designed to determine the extent and direction of the high-grade zone of mineralisation at Havieron.

"We are excited to be on the ground and pushing forward with our second major drilling campaign at Havieron following the excellent results from the first campaign which established a zone of high-grade gold mineralisation peaking at almost 4.5 ounces gold per tonne,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

"The results from the first drill programme, combined with independent geophysical modelling, indicate that Havieron has the potential to represent a very large mineralised system."

In a related move, the company has also issued around A$250,000 worth of shares to DDH1 Drilling, which will carry out the drilling campaign.

The samples were submitted for standard laboratory assay testing.

Of the 28 samples collected from Saddle Reefs, 11 returned gold values of more than 10 grams per tonne (g/t). High-grade results included 81.7g/t, 45.7g/t, 37.6g/t, 33.9g/t, 28.2g/t, 23.5g/t, 19.6g/t, 17.5g/t, 14.1g/t, 13.0g/t and 12.4g/t.

Many of the chips also returned high silver values, ranging up to 106.1 g/t.

Greatland said the results appear to roughly quadruple the strike length of gold mineralisation identified at the surface from 200 metres to around 800 metres.

At the Rogers prospect, several samples returned more than 1 g/t gold, ranging up to 8.9 g/t.

"We are delighted by these results which significantly extend the strike length of surface gold mineralisation at the Saddle Reefs prospect and further highlight the potential for Black Hills to host a large, high-grade gold deposit. Given these exciting results, we intend to quickly move forward with our exploration efforts at Black Hills and we look forward to receiving the results from the recent 3DIP survey which will be used to assist with planning Greatland's first drill campaign at Black Hills,” said Gervaise Heddle, the chief executive officer of Greatland.

Following positive mobile metal ion (MMI) sampling results earlier this year, Greatland embarked on a reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign across the Ernest Giles project from June through August 2018 that focused on high priority gold targets at the Meadows, Wishbone and Empress areas, and a nickel sulphide target at the Carnegie area.

Drilling commenced at Empress, then progressed to Carnegie, Wishbone and finally Meadows, Greatland revealed.

READ: Greatland Gold kicks off drilling programme at Ernest Giles

At Wishbone, two maiden drill holes were completed to test structural targets. The initial, deeper, hole failed to intersect basement despite being drilled to 498 metres (m) but the second hole intersected basement lithologies at 373m. Results from basement rocks reported up to 38 parts per billion (ppb) gold, 0.44 parts per million (ppm) silver and 0.15% copper.

On the Empress prospect, two holes were completed to test a surface MMI anomaly but, again, only one hole came up trumps.

The highest result at Empress was 4m at 45ppb from the surface in hole ERC032, which Greatland said largely explains the elevated surface MMI gold response; however, the source of the elevated gold at surface remains unexplained.

At Carnegie, one hole was completed to test a nickel target. The basement was intersected at 373m and the hole total depth was 408m. Hole ERC034 was the first drill hole by Greatland that has successfully intersected basement at Carnegie. A consistent nickel response was detected in the basement (to 0.02%) from 380m to 408m (end of hole) in ERC034.

Greatland is still awaiting results from its drilling at Meadows.

"We are very encouraged by the initial drill results from Wishbone and Carnegie, which reaffirm our exploration model for both areas and our view that, while very early stage, both targets are highly prospective,” said Gervaise Heddle, the chief executive officer of Greatland.

"The Wishbone area includes a number of high priority structural targets and it is noteworthy that we have intersected disseminated sulphides throughout the basement rocks in just our first drilling campaign in the area.

"We are also encouraged by the consistent nickel response in basement at Carnegie, a large nickel sulphide target with a geophysical signature similar to Independence Group's Nova nickel deposit. Importantly, this is the first and only hole that has intersected the target rocks in basement,” Heddle stressed.

"In regards to Empress, we intend to undertake further work to understand the source of the highly elevated gold response at surface in both RC drilling and MMI surface sampling," Heddle said.

Shares in Greatland were unchanged in mid-morning trading.

DDH1 has confirmed that drilling is on schedule to commence at Havieron in mid-September.

"We are delighted to be working with DDH1 again. They very successfully conducted our maiden drill campaign at Havieron earlier this year, which yielded excellent results,” Heddle said.

“DDH1 have become a great partner for us and we are pleased to see that they are backing this project not only with their skill-set but by taking equity in the company. This is a great endorsement for the Havieron project and our exploration efforts," he added.

Reflecting the share capital dilution that will arise from the issue of shares and warrants to DDH1, the Greatland share price fell 0.1p to 1.05p.

The target is approximately 1,000 metres long, traverses east-west across the Firetower prospect, and is open to the east and up to depths of 400 metres.

WATCH: 'Breakthrough' for Greatland Gold with large target spotted at Firetower project

What’s more, the results illustrate that sub-surface gold mineralisation identified in drilling to date is spatially associated with the 3DIP chargeability anomaly;

Greatland is currently working on plans for a drill programme.

"We are very pleased by the excellent models generated by the 3DIP survey at Firetower which have identified an exciting new large gold target,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“We believe that these models represent a potential breakthrough for our exploration efforts at Firetower and will help us to unlock the true potential of this high-grade, near-surface gold deposit. Our intention is to advance the Firetower project towards its exploration target of one million ounces of gold by leveraging these excellent results and we are currently planning a new drill programme which we expect to commence in the first quarter of 2019."

The new programme will focus on the Scallywag target, which is located with the Havieron licence and consists of several magnetic anomalies, each of which has the potential to host gold and/ or copper mineralisation.

WATCH: Greatland Gold announces third stream of Paterson exploration

News of the third programme comes on the back of “excellent results” from maiden exploration campaigns at Black Hills and Havieron, and all three will run in parallel with one another.

The first phase of the new programme is expected to begin later this month.

“The Paterson region remains relatively underexplored and we believe that it is highly prospective for large mineralised systems,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“Our licences host multiple large magnetic anomalies, similar in scale and structure to Havieron, and, over the course of the next twelve months, we intend to pursue a systematic programme of regional exploration that will test a number of these additional regional targets.

He added: “Scallywag hosts coincident magnetic and gravity anomalies and is a good starting point for our exploration programme because of its relative proximity to Havieron and its potential to host the prospective basement sequence at depths of less than 100 metres.”

Shares were broadly flat at 1.18p on Monday morning.

In terms of finances, Greatland ended the first half with £3.5mln of cash and no debt.

‘Multi-million ounce potential’

“Greatland is in the strongest position it has ever been following this year's successful exploration campaigns at both Havieron and Black Hills,” said CEO Heddle in today’s update.

“Both projects were acquired within the last two years and demonstrate the successful execution of Greatland's acquisition and exploration strategy during that time.”

He added: “We believe that Black Hills, Havieron and Ernest Giles have the potential to host multi-million ounce deposits and we look forward to updating investors on our progress as we seek to build on the success of the first half.”

The AIM-listed gold miner said the first phase of the programme included plans for a 3D induced polarisation survey (3DIP) (a geophysical imaging technique) covering a strike length of 1,200 metres over the high-grade gold mineralised zone identified at the Saddle Reefs prospect as well as areas immediately to the north and south of the area.

READ: Greatland Gold announces new drilling campaign at Havieron project

The company also said a review of historical induced polarisation data collected at the licence had highlighted the potential for the 3DIP to outline the orientation and depth potential of gold mineralisation that had been identified at the surface.

The 3DIP survey is expected to take around two weeks to complete, with the data processed to be sued in the planning of the drill programme.

The drilling programme is the second to be unveiled by the company so far this month after it announced a second drilling campaign at its Havieron licence at the start of July following “encouraging” results from the final three holes drilled during its first programme at the site.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive of Greatland Gold, said: “The identification of visible gold at surface means that exploring Black Hills' potential will be a relatively low-cost and low-risk endeavour, but one with substantial upside potential.”

In mid-morning trading Tuesday, Greatland Gold shares were up 2.4% at 1.4p.

Greatland added that the new drill programme included up to ten core holes for a total 6,000m of drilling and was scheduled to commence in September 2018 and last for 10 weeks.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive of Greatland Gold, said: “The results have provided us with a high degree of confidence to commit to additional work which is designed to further outline the extent of high grade mineralisation.

Since then, the field team has continued to collect surface samples. Prospective rock sequences have been observed at several areas with numerous indications of mineralisation in bedrock. Further gossanous samples have been collected from outcrop and additional primary gold mineralisation has been located in bedrock at the Saddle Reefs area where gold is present as coarse pieces in rock samples from surface.

These extra finds add significantly to gold pieces already located and have extended the strike length of gold in bedrock at Saddle Reefs to approximately 200 metres.

"Greatland's first exploration campaign at Black Hills has clearly established the presence of high grade gold mineralisation at surface across a 200 metre strike length at the Saddle Reefs prospect,” said chief executive Gervaise Heddle.

“Given this exciting start, we intend to accelerate our exploration efforts at Black Hills which will initially focus on determining the potential extent of the zone of high grade gold mineralisation at Saddle Reefs. Results from rock chip sampling will be announced to the market in due course."

The AIM-listed gold miner said the drill assay results from HAD001 had established the presence of high-grade gold at Havieron with a peak of 137.69g/t or 4.4 ounces per tonne of gold.

WATCH: Greatland Gold hails 'excellent' result from first drill hole at Havieron

The group added that the results highlighted the potential for Havieron to represent a very large mineralised system, with results from three other holes drilled at the project expected within the coming weeks.

Gervaise Heddle, Greatland Gold chief executive, said: “We believe that these results begin to demonstrate the large scale of Havieron and the potential for Havieron to host zones of high-grade gold and copper.

He added: "Momentum is building up for us as we see positive results from our stated strategy of focusing and progressing with our target projects. In addition to today's news, we had the rapid discovery of gold nuggets within the first days of our maiden exploration campaign at Black Hills and we started our drilling campaign at Ernest Giles.”

The results follow news from last week that Greatland had kicked off a drilling programme at its Ernest Giles project which would focus on three high priority gold targets at the Meadows, Wishbone and Empress areas in addition to a nickel sulphide target at the Carnegie licence.

Only one previous hole has been drilled at Carnegie targeting the geophysical magnetic anomaly but Greatland was encouraged by the outcome. It plans to drill a hole at Carnegie to a depth of 375 metres and will be included as part of the current drilling programme at Ernest Giles.

Greatland said the proposed drilling programme at Ernest Giles has now commenced and will focus on three high priority gold targets at the Meadows, Wishbone and Empress areas, and the aforementioned nickel sulphide target at the Carnegie licence.

The drilling programme at the Meadows area will consist of around twenty-four reverse circulation (RC) drill holes to test the 5km by 1.5km anomaly defined by deep sensing geochemistry (DSG) work that remains untested by previous drilling.

— Gervaise Heddle (@gervaiseheddle) June 22, 2018

In addition, up to six RC holes will be completed at the Wishbone and Empress areas to test basement geology and physical rock properties.

"We are very pleased to be on schedule with our drilling campaign at Ernest Giles. Given the strong rise of the nickel price, which has nearly doubled in the past 12 months, this is an opportune moment to test our nickel target at Carnegie, particularly due to the encouraging results from our historical drill hole,” said Gervaise Heddle, the chief executive officer of Greatland.

Intensely oxidised (gossanous) samples have been collected from outcrop and gold nuggets have been found within thin sand cover at the prospect. Primary gold mineralisation has also been located in bedrock where gold pieces in rock chip samples are present. These finds are significant considering the short time field crews have been active at the site, Greatland said.

Only 150 metres of the strike at Saddle Reefs has been covered so far and the remaining several hundred metres will be traversed over the next week. Rock chip samples are being collected and will be analysed with standard chemical assay techniques, and a further update will be provided in due course, the company added.

"We are very pleased by the rapid discovery and collection of gold from surface within days of the field work commencing,” said Gervaise Heddle, the chief executive officer of Greatland.

Greatland Gold said a review of historic data has highlighted the potential for high-grade, near-surface gold mineralisation at several prospects throughout the Black Hills licence including Saddle Reefs, Eastern, Rogers and Northern Granites.

At the Saddle Reefs prospect, strong surface gold mineralisation is present, with rock chip results including 55.6 grams per tonne (g/t), 20.0g/t and 19.65g/t, over an area of around 1,400 metres (m) by 800m.

On the Eastern prospect, there is a linear zone of gold mineralised stratigraphy apparent over a strike of about 4km; broad-spaced drilling along the zone has returned results including 1m at 10.0g/t gold from 16m, 1m at 4.93g/t from 12m and 1m at 3.12g/t from 37m.

Greatland Gold added that both the Rogers and Northern Granites show prospective gold mineralisation at the surface with rock chip results including 50.2g/t, 10.45g/t and 6.9g/t.

"Our first exploration programme at Black Hills marks another important step for Greatland. Sitting near the 27 million ounce Telfer gold deposit and hosting an equivalent style of mineralisation, Black Hills represents a compelling and high priority exploration opportunity for the company,” said Gervaise Heddle, the chief executive officer of Greatland Gold.

"Results from our forensic review of the historic[al] data have further highlighted the licence's prospectivity for multiple zones of high-grade, near-surface gold mineralisation. Importantly, this means that exploring Black Hills' potential will be a relatively low-cost and low-risk endeavour, but one with substantial potential upside,” he added.

Shares in Greatland were up 6.4% at 0.58p in mid-morning trading.

"Results of our recent MMI campaign were better than expected as we identified new targets and confirmed existing known targets across all areas,” said Gervaise Heddle, Greatland Gold chief executive in a statement.

“The next stage is to commence a drilling programme at Ernest Giles, which includes plans for up to thirty drill holes and is scheduled to start before the end of this quarter."

Greatland now intends to conduct a reverse circulation drilling programme at all three areas.

At Meadows, it will drill 24 holes on an anomaly that has yet to be tested, meanwhile, six holes will be completed at Wishbone and Empress.

In afternoon trading, Greatland Gold shares were 5.4% higher at 0.59p.

It added that drill core obtained from this drilling campaign will be subject to several analytical methods to determine the type of mineralisation and will be tested for an extensive range of elements including gold, copper, uranium and rare earths.

The group said that significant alteration and mineralisation intersected by Newcrest in limited historical drilling at Havieron displayed similarities to iron-oxide-copper-gold style deposits, examples of which include the large Olympic Dam and Ernest Henry deposits in central and eastern Australia.

Gervaise Heddle, Greatland’s chief executive officer, commented: "The prospectivity of the Paterson region is widely recognised with several large industry participants engaged in active exploration.

“We believe that this drilling campaign at Havieron may further demonstrate the potential of the eastern edge of the Paterson region to host a new IOCG district in Western Australia."

Investors seemed to agree, with Greatland shares up 2.7% to 0.57p in early morning trading.

It comes after a technical review of the project highlighted potential for a geophysical programme (using induced polarisation) to assist in outlining gold mineralisation in areas untested by previous drilling.

The company added that it has now received all necessary approvals for the proposed survey, now expected to start within the next week. It will cover a strike length of 1.6 kilometres over the immediate gold mineralised zone at Firetower as well as high priority target areas to the west and east.

If the campaign proves successful, the exploration model could be extended across other parts of the project area.

The results will also help plan a future drilling programme which is currently slated for the fourth quarter, but, could be brought forward if ground conditions are suitable.

"This is one of three drilling and exploration campaigns announced by Greatland Gold in 2018, as we continue to deliver on our commitment to advance exploration at our portfolio of projects,” said Gervaise Heddle, Greatland chief executive.

“The new exploration programme at Firetower aims to unlock the true potential of this high grade near surface deposit, which has the potential to extend across four kilometres of strike, and to advance the project towards its exploration target of one million ounces of gold."
