Goldplat’s interim results revealed a company in rude financial health. Output hit a record 15,404 of gold from its recovery operations in South Africa and Ghana. Profits grew by three quarters to £2.37 million, and the business was also hugely cash generative, which has allowed it to finance its expansion organically.

Goldplat has agreed a deal with Central Rand Gold to restart gold mining at the Crown East and CMR Bird Reef mines near Johannesburg.

Shares in Goldplat were higher in morning trade after the group received a 21-year lease for the Kilimapesa gold mine in Kenya.

Goldplat has increased its gold resource at the 246 square kilometre Nyieme gold project in Burkina Faso by 61 per cent. The company’s broker, WH Ireland, restated its buy advice and 21 pence a share price target in the wake of today’s announcement.

The past year has been one of considerable progress for Goldplat. Yet the market has been slow to catch on to this and the potential of Goldplat, which is aiming to lift production to 50,000 ounces a year.
