shares in uranium company Forte Energy NL rose sharply after the firm said further testing at its Firawa project in Guinea "significantly increased" its concentration of rare earth elements. Revised assay results revealed REE concentrations up to 40% higher for cerium and up to 72% higher for praseodymium, after the Australian-based company said these minerals were beyond the detection limits of original tests. Forte Energy also announced "much higher" concentration figures for neodymium, after originally mistakenly stating assay figures for the similarly named niobium. At 1105 GMT, Forte Energy shares were trading up 5.1% at 9 pence, outperforming the AIM index, which was up 0.5%. Numis analyst Cailey Barker confirmed that "the REE concentrations are higher than expected due to an assay result error." China supplies at least 95% of the world?s rare earths and has recently placed restrictions on exports of the minerals, which are used in the manufacture of hybrid vehicles, energy-saving lightbulbs and wind turbines, sending the market soaring. Foreign companies and governments now fear Chinese control will deny them access to the metals, despite two-thirds of the world?s reserves being located outside the Asian nation.

Forte Energy: Aiming to double uranium resources with Mauritania drilling

Forte's A238 prospect in Mauritania has an initial JORC inferred resource of 14.9 million pounds, while in Guinea it has 11.6 million pounds. A recently launched drilling campaign over the next nine months will aim to double those reserves and be the key for the next nine months.
