Dominion is dedicated to exploration for new oil and gas reserves in East and Central Africa. Dominion is the second largest net acreage holder in the Albertine Rift Basin in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo where it operates two exploration licences. This basin has seen nearly thirty oil discoveries over the past three years and has emerged as the premier new oil exploration province in the region. Dominion’s net unrisked recoverable resources in Uganda (PDF) have been independently estimated at 359 Million barrels of oil (64 Million barrels risked).

The farm-out deal has set an attractive valuation from Dominion’s remaining 80 per cent stake in the Tanzanian asset, analysts say. Abu Dhabi firm Mubadala Oil & Gas is paying US$20 million in cash, as well as covering up to US$2.4 million of exploration costs, for a 20 per cent stake in Block 7 in the deep waters off Tanzania.

East Africa has become a major exploration hotspot due to a series of major discoveries in Tanzania and Mozambique – made by Anadarko, Cove Energy, BG Group and Ophir. Analysts reckon that Kenya may be the next staging post for explorers. This is likely to be good news for Dominion as it extended its acreage there this morning.

A US$55mln fund raiser announced today should go some way to helping to advancing its aims, most notably through further development of its promising projects in Africa.

Dominion's early entry and its strong local partners have enabled the company to gain a significant acreage holding in Africa. The company has one Production Sharing Agreement offshore Tanzania (Block 7) and three onshore - Mandawa, Kisangire (which includes the Lukuliro licence) and Selous.
Dominion also holds a 95% interest in Ugandan Exploration Area 4B in the Albertine Rift Basin, the site of almost thirty recent oil discoveries. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominion has signed a Production Sharing Agreement for Block 5 together with partners Soco International and the State Oil Company which has received Presidential ratification.
Onshore Tanzania
Dominion’s wholly-owned subsidiary Dominion Oil and Gas Limited owns production sharing rights over three contract areas onshore in Tanzania. The Mandawa and Kisangire PSAs were signed on 20th May 2005; the Selous PSA on 27th April 2006. Mandawa (50% working interest, Les Etablissements Maurel & Prom (“M & P”) 50%) and Selous (100% working interest) PSA’s are currently operated by Dominion; Kisangire is operated by Heritage Oil and Gas through its subsidiary, Heritage Tanzania Kisangire Limited (Dominion 45% working interest). Offshore Tanzania
In March 2007, Dominion Tanzania Limited - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dominion Petroleum - signed a Production Sharing Agreement which grants rights to explore for petroleum in the offshore Block 7. The First Exploration Period expires in May 2011. Block 7 is located on the continental slope of the Indian Ocean, immediately east of Dar es Salaam and incorporates 8,492 square kilometres (2.10 million acres). On 27th July 2007, Dominion Petroleum's subsidiary, Dominion Uganda Limited, signed a Production Sharing Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Uganda which grants it exclusive rights to explore for petroleum in Exploration Area 4B ("EA4B"). Democratic Republic of Congo
In December 2007, Dominion Petroleum’s subsidiary Dominion Congo Limited signed a Production Sharing Agreement with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which gives it and its partners exclusive rights to explore for petroleum in Block 5. Dominion (46.75%) partners with SOCO International plc (38.25%) and State Oil Company, Congolaise des Hydrocarbures (‘COHYDRO’) (15%). SOCO operates the PSA. Justin Burley is head of Corporate Development at Greenwood Holdings LLC, a company that creates fuel pellets paper companie's waste sludge. Previously, he was a vice president and senior analyst with Plainfield Asset Management LLC, a Greenwich, Connecticut based investment advisor with more than $1.2 billion of capital under management. He is a former director with ABN AMRO Bank in London where he was responsible for the European leveraged capital markets group. Prior to that he worked in a variety of roles with Barclays Capital in London and Bankers Trust in New York.

Atul Gupta has worked for 25 years in the international upstream oil and gas business successively with Charterhouse Petroleum, Petrofina, Monument and Burren Energy. Atul joined Burren in 1999 as Chief Operating Officer and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 2006 until the company was sold to ENI last year. He has a bachelors degree in chemical engineering from Cambridge University and a masters degree in petroleum engineering from Heriott Watt University.

Roland is a geology graduate with over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. The majority of his career has been spent in the drilling services sector and he has undertaken managerial assignments in most of the active oil and gas regions in the world including West and North Africa, the Middle East, the North Sea and the Americas.
