Shares in Falklands explorer Desire Petroleum (LON:DES) have eased back from the earlier spike following release of its resource update. At 12.45pm, the stock was up 0.25 pence at 20.5 pence, but well off its intra-day high of 22.48 pence. Analysts say it will take time and a lot of money to prove up Desire's assets.

Desire's prospect inventory has been reinforced with the explorer now having 41 oil prospects and four gas prospects.

Desire Petroleum says it will seek industry partners to participate in the further exploration of the North Falkland basin as its prospect inventory continues to mature.

In a note to clients Westhouse’s Matharu said the news was positive but the funding remains the key issue for investors in Desire Petroleum. He highlighted that, with less than US$13 million in the bank, Desire doesn’t currently have enough money to carry out any further exploration work of its own.
