New Talisman Gold Mines Ltd Snapshot

New Talisman Gold Mines Ltd (formerly Heritage Gold NZ Ltd) is listed on both the Australian and New Zealand stock exchanges under the code NTL.

The company holds a mining permit and an exploration permit over the Talisman Gold mine project in the Hauraki Gold Field. The company has completed all necessary permitting for development of the bulk sampling project at the mine and holds a resource consent for this purpose.

The company also has entered into a Heads of Agreement with Newcrest over the Rahu exploration area for which New Talisman made a discovery and which provides significant upside for the longer term. The Rahu project is dependent on a current application being granted by New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals.

NTL holds a signficant stake in Broken Hill Prospecting Limited (ASX:BPL) which holds a Heavy mineral sands project  it is working to develop as well as its cobalt project near Broken Hill in Australia.

Responsible, environmentally sustainable mineral exploration and profitable development is a strong focus of the company.

Talisman Mining Permit MP 51-326

Historical Perspective

Gold was discovered at Karangahake in 1869 and mining commenced in 1875, with the main mining period lasting until 1919. Mining continued at varying levels of intensity up to 1992. The centre produced more than 1 million oz of gold and 3 million oz of silver over a total strike length of 1000 metres and to 700 metres depth. The majority of this production came from the Talisman and Crown mines (two separate vein systems) which are now held under the Talisman mining permit.

The Talisman mine comprises the Maria, Crown/Welcome and Mystery veins.

The Maria Vein averages 1-3 metres in width and demonstrated an estimated average historical grade of 28 g/t gold and 128 g/t silver.

The Crown Vein, about 0.6 – 1 metre in width, averaged 16 g/t gold and 12 g/t silver.  Gold grades were lower than the Maria Vein but generally more consistent.

The Mystery Vein was discovered in the late 1980’s and has never been mined.  Where it has been tested on Level 8 it averages about 1 metre in width.

The Talisman was mined on 16 levels during its life and good access is available on Level 8 which was refurbished by New Talisman Gold Mines for extensive channel sampling and drilling.

JORC resource

Previous underground drilling and channel sampling delineated a JORC inferred resource of 205,000 oz gold at a grade of 6.9g/t and 800,000 oz silver at a grade of 27 g/t .

New Talisman is planning comprehensive underground resource definition drilling and metallurgical sampling to increase the size and confidence level of the resource.

The company is currently involved in a pre-feasibility study to assess a number of options for mining and processing.

Rahu Exploration Permit 40-117

The Rahu tenement lies immediately to the north of the Talisman Mine and on the same strike line as the gold bearing veins at Talisman. Exploration has defined a 2km long zone of coincident geochemical, resistivity and ground magnetic anomalies.

This area is believed to have similar potential to Talisman and is the focus of continuing exploration.

Previous drilling intersected anomalous gold in several holes including intersections of:

  • 16 metres at 2.49 g/t Au
  • 8 metres at 1.71 g/t Au
  • 66 metres at 0.49 g/t Au
  • 130 metres at 0.35 g/t Au

The initial drilling, which was relatively shallow and still within the upper zone of the hydrothermal alteration, confirmed the company’s geological model for the property.

Structurally the Rahu block is believed to have been downthrown, supporting the potential for Talisman-type grades to be intersected in deeper drilling beneath these strong indications.

Further drilling will seek gold-bearing intersections in feeder veins at vertical depths of 150-350m.

The discovery of economic grade gold at Rahu strengthens our view of the extent and potential of the Talisman mineralisation.
