Argonaut is an Australian Stock Exchange listed mineral exploration and development company with projects in South Australia, Queensland, Laos and Zambia. Argonaut’s projects are in the advanced exploration and feasibility stages.


Lumwana West, Mwombezhi Dome

The Mwombezhi Dome is located in the western extension of the Lufilian Arc, host to the Central African Copperbelt. The Mwombezhi Dome is comprised of two northeast-southwest trending basement inliers, and is one of several domes in an area of the Copperbelt known as the ‘Domes Region’.
The Domes Region is host to the new generation of Zambian Copperbelt mines including Barrick’s Lumwana Mine on the eastern lobe of the Mwombezhi Dome plus First Quantum’s KansanshiMine and Trident Deposits. The Sentinel Mine, currently under construction to the west, is also owned and operated by First Quantum. Copper production in the area is set to reach 870,000 tonnes per annum by 2015.
The Lumwana West project is located on the western lobe of the Mwombezhi Dome.The Lumwana West licence area covers numerous prospects, as defined by regional soil geochemistry. The Nyungu prospect was selected by Argonaut as the first area for intensive investigation.

The Torrens Anomaly

The project contains strong magnetic and gravity anomalies with previous drilling by WMC Ltd intersecting intense magnetite and haematite alteration typical of Olympic Dam and Carrapateena style ore bodies in SA.
Access to the tenement for the purpose of exploration is subject to litigation.

The 100% held Alford project is on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, 20 kilometres north-east of Wallaroo, within the Olympic Domain, near the south-eastern margin of the Gawler Craton. The Olympic Domain is host to the Olympic Dam deposit, the Prominent Hill deposits and the Carrapateena deposit. The Hillside Project (Rex Minerals) is located 80 km to the south of the Alford Project. The historic Moonta and Wallaroo mining district is immediately to the south of the Alford project area and is currently being actively explored.

Argonaut holds a 100% interest in the Kroombit deposit in Central Queensland. The company reported a zinc – copper resource to JORC standards on 11 June 2009

The Inferred and Indicated Resources comprise:

  • A Zinc Resource of 5.2 million tonnes grading at 1.9% zinc and 0.15% copper at a cut-off of 1.0% Zn, for 98,800 tonnes of zinc and 7,800 tonnes of copper
  • A Copper Resource of 0.9 million tonnes at 1.0% copper at a cut-off of 0.5% Cu for 9,000 tonnes of copper
  • A total of 16,800 tonnes of copper from the Zinc Resource model and the Copper Resource model.
  • The resource estimates, announced in June 2009, were completed by independent geological consultants, Hellman & Schofield Pty Ltd.

Mr Elliott has been the Chairman of Argonaut Resources NL for over 10 years. He is an investment banker who has 40 years’ experience in financial management and resource investment and development.

Lindsay Owler
Exploration Director

Mr Owler is geologist and geophysicist with 19 years’ experience in mineral exploration and development. Mr Owler holds a Bachelor of Science and is Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Andrew Bursill

Mr Bursill is a chartered accountant with more than 15 years' experience as a director and company secretary of numerous publicly listed entities.

In addition to his appointment at Argonaut, Mr Bursill is currently the company secretary of  Aguia Resources Limited, Austral Gold Limited, MOKO Social Media Limited, Eagle Nickel Limited, Elk Petroleum Limited and several other unlisted public and private companies.

Malcolm Richmond
Metallurgist and Economist

Professor Richmond is a qualified metallurgist and economist with extensive board experience in the resource and technology industries. He is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Professor Richmond spent 30 years with Rio Tinto and CRA Groups including the position of managing director of research and development and vice president strategy and acquisitions. Immediately prior to his retirement he held the position of managing director of development at Hamersley Iron Pty Limited. Professor Richmond served as a visiting professor at the University of Western Australia until January 2012, teaching in the MBA programme.
